Elizabeth Olsen’s Movie With The Good Place Vibes Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes

Elizabeth Olsen grew up in the world of the entertainment industry, the younger sister of the famous Olsen twins of Full House fame, and also began her acting and music career at a young age. Today, she has cemented herself as a formidable talent across blockbusters and arthouse projects and has even earned a Primetime Emmy nomination.

Olsen is now widely known for playing the MCU’s Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlett Witch, but has many more roles to her name. Elizabeth Olsen’s best movies and TV shows include the likes of WandaVision, His Three Daughters, and Wind River (which recently surged on streaming). Olsen’s career only continues to grow as she takes on fascinating and challenging new roles.

Eternity Has A Flawless Debut On Rotten Tomatoes

Olsen and A24’s new romantic dramedy Eternity, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, has received a perfect initial Rotten Tomatoes score. Eternity follows the recently deceased Joan (Olsen), who has one week to decide with whom she wants to spend eternity in her afterlife; the movie arrives in select theaters on November 14 before its wide release on November 26.

Her options are the man she has already spent her life with, Larry (Miles Teller), or her first love, Luke (Callum Turner), who has been waiting for her for decades. After the summer where Materials challenged rom-com conventions, Eternity would appear to be a worthwhile follow-up, exploring heartrending themes about the nature of love and commitment and the experiences of someone who lost their first spouse.

Critics seemingly believe that Eternity tackles these themes well, as it has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 100% from 11 reviews so far. Richard Lawson of The Hollywood Reporter says: “It’s all quite clever and sweet, even as a great current of sadness runs under just about every conversation in the film.

What This Means For Elizabeth Olsen’s Eternity

With 2023’s His Three Daughters sitting at a 97% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Eternity continues the trend of Olsen’s poignant, dramatic career outside the MCU. Even with Olsen’s impending MCU return, it is great to see her pursuing another genre where she excels and ending up in some great movies.

Eternity is also a fresh part for Miles Teller, who shouldn’t be forgotten as a romance genre icon for his performance in 2013’s The Spectacular Now. Callum Turner appeared in 2020’s Emma., but seems like a perfect fit for some unconventional rom-coms, making his turn in Eternity a promising new start.

Despite its 100% debut, I can’t really see Eternity being a serious awards season contender, though it may achieve some deserved recognition outside the Oscars. Its Rotten Tomatoes score will probably drop off as more critics review it, but it has nonetheless proven to be a valuable addition to its cast’s filmographies.
