Chris Evans Suits Up As Hydra’s Captain America In Avengers: Doomsday Art After MCU Rumor

Avengers: Doomsday could see the return of Chris Evans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after recent rumors, and the actor suits up as an evil version of Captain America in exciting new MCU art that showcases what his role could be. Evans was not confirmed as part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, with the actor also denying any involvement with the movie.

That said, multiple reports have claimed that he will return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. Recently, Chris Evans’ Avengers-level physique boosted the MCU return rumors, though nothing official has come of it at this time. Still, it was enough to get fans talking about his possible role in the upcoming MCU movie, which could include a villain turn for the Marvel star.

On Instagram, @welove__marvel imagined what Chris Evans could look like as HYDRA’s Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday.

The fan art shows Evans donning a superhero suit that bears some traditional Captain America patterns, though modified to fit the evil HYDRA version of the character. Gone are the white and blue, with Evans’ Steve Rogers wearing a darker red and black color scheme. HYDRA’s logo can be seen on his shield, with the character sitting on a throne, completely unlike Captain America.

With the multiverse at its disposal, Avengers: Doomsday‘s story could feature several different versions of classic Marvel characters from other universes. That opens the door for Evans to either play the MCU’s Captain America or the rumored Captain HYDRA, if not both. Avengers: Endgame teased the character’s evil turn from the comics when Steve said, “Hail HYDRA,” to get the briefcase.

Marvel could now use the multiverse to dive fully into the evil Captain America concept. Having Evans play a villain would be in line with what has been revealed about the 2026 MCU movie. After all, its main villain will be Doctor Doom, played by the MCU’s Iron Man star, Robert Downey Jr. If RDJ can return as a villain, so could Evans.

Besides, having a team featuring the MCU’s original Avengers actors under Doctor Doom’s leadership would be quite the factor to get audiences excited about the next Avengers movie. Downey’s Victor von Doom will have to fight teams like the MCU’s New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Fox’s original X-Men, and more in Avengers: Doomsday. To do that, he will need a team.

As it stands, there is no official indication that Chris Evans is in Avengers: Doomsday, nor that he will be playing HYDRA’s Captain America in the movie. However, the actor did return to the MCU in 2024, playing a version of the Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. With Evans working with Marvel again, an Avengers appearance is very likely.

Add in the factor that the Russo Brothers, who directed Evans’ last two Captain America and Avengers movies, are behind Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and the actor’s chances of being in the 2026 movie look even better. HYDRA’s Captain America is a role that would keep Steve Rogers’ MCU ending intact, which could be what convinces Chris Evans to return in Avengers: Doomsday.
