New R-Rated Batman Movie Set PH๏τos Confirm Which DC Villain Is The Focus & Key Storyline

New Clayface set pH๏τos finally reveal a key aspect of the upcoming DC Universe horror movie. While the Dark Knight will make his big screen debut in the Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate, one of his most famous super-villains will be coming to life first in James Gunn’s new franchise.

Even though the project wasn’t part of the initial January 2023 announcement, the Clayface movie from Mike Flanagan is set to be one of DC Studios’ 2026 releases, with James Watkins directing it. The film recently began principal pH๏τography, as there have been several glimpses of the main actor on set.

A new set pH๏τo from @Chimichangaprod (via @DCUPRIMETV) has made its way online, which finally answers one of the biggest questions about the 2026 entry. The set image confirms that the comic book horror will be focusing on the Matt Hagen version of Clayface, as several characters have used the тιтle in the lore.

In the new image, a crew member can be seen rolling together a newspaper front page, with the headline, “ACTOR MATT HAGEN ᴅᴇᴀᴅ,” featuring a sH๏τ of Tom Rhys Harries. Prior to this, it had been rumored that Harries would be playing that iteration of the DC villain, but DC Studios had not confirmed it.

What The New Clayface Set PH๏τo Means

There are several things that this pH๏τo may indicate pertaining to the film’s overall storyline in the DCU timeline and to Harries’ character’s arc. One possibility is that this headline is floating around after Matt’s accident, as he is an actor who would likely be getting this type of coverage in Gotham City.

However, it’s also possible that this could be from the film’s ending, as Matt perhaps stages his own death and fully embraces his new life as the shape-shifting player. This could also be what leads to Matt becoming the Batman villain for future DCU installments.

It’s a relief to finally know which version of the DC character is being used for the theatrical adaptation, and it makes sense that Matt is the one who will be focused on. He is the Clayface figure who is most used in media adaptations, especially in animated properties.

With Matt and other Batman villains like Joker being set up in DC Studios’ main continuity, the DCU is wasting no time establishing several rogues for the Caped Crusader. As Clayface continues principal pH๏τography, more details will surely emerge soon.
