One of the biggest horror movies of the year is finally available to watch at home. 2025 has been a banner year for horror, with some of the year’s biggest films having the potential to be ranked among the best horror movies of all time. This has included strong, critically acclaimed films like Sinners and Bring Her Back.
It is no secret that horror movies have been carrying Hollywood this year. The genre has been perhaps the most consistently performing, with Final Destination Bloodlines and The Conjuring: Last Rites breaking franchise records. With this in mind, there has been one frightening film that might be the best of all.
That is a high bar, as there is great potential for films like Sinners to qualify for some major Academy Awards. However, this other film, the second feature from a strong new voice in horror, will also be present on many of this year’s best-of lists and is finally available to watch at home after an incredible theatrical run.
Weapons Is Now On Digital After Mᴀssively Popular Theatrical Release
Zach Cregger’s box office hit Weapons is now available to purchase or rent from digital retailers. The movie debuted in theaters a month ago, on August 8th, where it hit a box office milestone, becoming the 25th highest-grossing horror movie of all time, with a gross of $251 million.
Made for an estimated budget of $38 million, this is an incredible success for director Cregger, eclipsing his previous movie Barbarian‘s $45 million in global earnings. That film went on to become especially popular on streaming, and the same will likely occur for Weapons in the coming weeks.
Weapons presents a frightening premise, which sees seventeen children from the same class each leave their rooms in the middle of the night and disappear. The film examines the community’s response to this event, with Julia Garner’s Justine Gandy becoming a quick suspect due to her being the teacher for each of these students.
The film takes a series of increasingly unexpected turns, transforming into something wholly original. The mysteries from Weapons will surely be discussed for months to come when the film hits HBO Max at an undetermined future date, but for now, audiences who did not see the film in theatres have the chance to watch it at home.
Weapons is already one of the best movies of the year, and will surely be rewatched over and over now that it is available at home. With an excellent cast that features such strong performers as Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong, the film is a prime example of what horror can do in 2025’s cinema.
