A DC victor has emerged between James Gunn’s Superman movie and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Following the end of the DCEU movie timeline in 2023, DC Studios has been working on getting their new superhero franchise up and running across big and small screens.
2025 was a crucial year for Gunn’s new universe, as David Corenswet’s take on Krypton’s last son marked the return of the DC icon in theaters, which resulted in many positive Superman movie reviews and bigger hype for this franchise going forward. The box office journey has also been an obstacle to the film’s success, especially when compared to previous films for the hero.
As Superman has now grossed $614.1 million worldwide, it continues to surpᴀss 2013’s Man of Steel in the domestic market. The DCEU entry, which stars Henry Cavill as the тιтular hero, grossed $291 million domestically for Warner Bros., while the Corenswet-led outing has earned $353.3 million at the domestic box office.
Variety also notes that Gunn’s 2025 installment has earned the studio $125 million in theatrical profits. However, Warner Bros. and DC Studios declined to comment to them about the reported numbers at the time of this story’s publication.
What Superman’s Box Office Numbers Mean
Following the Superman movie’s ending and the reception to it as a whole, the domestic numbers crown this as the highest-grossing entry for the DC legend domestically. However, in terms of worldwide totals, Gunn’s movie is $56 million short of tying with Snyder’s film, which was the one to set up the DCEU in 2013, similar to what the 2025 project did for the DCU.

With the 2025 movie already out on digital and getting ready to be released on streaming, it is definitely not going to surpᴀss its rival. Nevertheless, the success of Gunn’s Superman is still the victory that his new franchise needed, which is why the Man of Tomorrow movie is already in the works.
Our Take On Superman’s Box Office Numbers
With the box office results in the domestic market, but also its worldwide results, Superman remains the most profitable superhero movie for 2025, as DC Studios beat all of Marvel Studios’ releases. Ideally, this success will be something that continues through the DCU’s upcoming installments, including 2026’s Supergirl.
