Keanu Reeves’ Constantine subsтιтute has just debuted on Rotten Tomatoes after its TIFF premiere, earning a solid score. Released in 2005, Constantine remains one of Reeves’ most memorable films, with the actor playing an occult expert who faces off against demons.

Reeves, of course, has a number of other notable тιтles under his belt, including ’90s classics like Point Break (1991), Speed (1994), and The Matrix (1999). In the 2000s, Reeves’ career took a turn, with Constantine serving as one of the few memorable тιтles he starred in, save for two new Matrix movies.

With 2014’s John Wick, Reeves was thrust back into the spotlight as an action hero, and the three Wick sequels were all big hits. Although the Ballerina spinoff underperformed this summer, John Wick 5 is now in development, with Reeves potentially reprising his role.

Reeves has several movies on the horizon, including a possible Constantine 2, which remains in development. Before a return to this dark world of angels and demons, however, Reeves will appear in a lighthearted comedy, which takes a very different approach to angels.

Good Fortune Is Off To A Respectable Start On Rotten Tomatoes

Good Fortune‘s Rotten Tomatoes score is here, and the new Reeves film has had a worthy debut. Directed by and starring Aziz Ansari, the fantastical comedy movie features Reeves as Gabriel, an inept angel who finds himself entwined in the lives of a venture capitalist and a struggling gig worker. Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh also star.

Following its premiere at TIFF, Good Fortune has debuted with a 75% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 12 reviews. Though this score is sure to fluctuate as more reviews are added, the film currently has a “fresh” designation. No Popcornmeter score is available just yet, but one will take shape following the movie’s October 17 theatrical release.

What This Means For Good Fortune

Good Fortune has faced a long road to release, suffering delays due to a variety of factors, including the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike. A 75% score may not be the sign of a glowing critical response, but it does suggest that the film is generally well-liked and successful in its storytelling.

In her Good Fortune review for ScreenRant, Rachel LaBonte awards the film a seven out of 10, praising the humor and the unexpected twists and turns of the story while struggling with the heavy-handed messaging. It’s Reeves himself, however, who emerges as a true highlight. As LaBonte writes:

Reeves is perfect for the role, since he somehow manages to seem both impressively wise and endearingly naive. Just try not to break out in a huge smile while watching him excitedly exclaim, “Chicken nuggies!” It’s a far cry from his latest John Wick appearance in Ballerina earlier this year. He’s a joy to watch every time he comes onscreen.

The cast is a major point of praise across many reviews, with Reeves frequently cited as a strong point. The movie is said to generally succeed with its balance of humor and heart, though some narrative choices are proving somewhat divisive.

It’s not clear how Good Fortune will fare at the box office, but its Rotten Tomatoes debut and early reviews suggest it could end up being a crowd-pleaser.
