Warner Bros.’s Record-Breaking Movie Is Now The Second-Highest-Grossing Horror Of 2025

Weapons is continuing to climb the chart, achieving a major box office record in the process. The horror тιтle is the new movie from Barbarian director Zach Cregger and boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, and Amy Madigan.

Weapons debuted in theaters on August 8 and has already accomplished a great deal before the end of its first full month. This includes more than quadrupling the worldwide haul of Barbarian, far exceeding its own reported production budget of $38 million, and becoming one of the 15 highest-grossing horror movies in history at the domestic box office.

Now, Warner Bros. has shared that Weapons has taken in an additional $1.5 million at the domestic box office on Friday, pushing the movie’s cumulative domestic gross to a whopping $139.1 million. This has allowed it to surge past the $138.1 million domestic gross of Final Destination Bloodlines, becoming the second highest-grossing horror movie of 2025 to date.

The only horror movie ahead of it at the time of writing is Ryan Coogler’s runaway hit Sinners, which grossed $278.6 million at the domestic box office and $366.7 million worldwide.

What This Means For Weapons

One thing that is remarkable about 2025’s Weapons outgrossing Final Destination Bloodlines in North America is the fact that the supernatural sequel is the highest-grossing installment in the six-film franchise, both at home and worldwide.

What makes this achievement even more impressive is the fact that Weapons is an original story that isn’t attached to any pre-existing IP. Now, both of the two highest-grossing horror movies of 2025 are original тιтles, which is an entirely unusual occurrence.

It seems unlikely that this will remain true for long. The Conjuring: Last Rites, which debuted on September 5, is projected to take in a debut haul of $75 million, which is the highest for a horror movie this year. If the franchise movie has strong audience retention, it could race up the chart, potentially shouldering its way past Weapons.

Weapons could also face compeтιтion from upcoming 2025 horror sequels, namely Black Phone 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. However, given its current record, it seems set to, at the very least, remain in the Top 5 horror movies of 2025 by the end of the year.

The fact that Cregger has been able to achieve this kind of record with an original horror movie like Weapons could mean that his next project, the upcoming Resident Evil reboot, will perform even better. If it does, that would cement him as one of the most successful genre directors of the modern age.
