The Conjuring: Last Rites Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Sets Unexpected Franchise Record

The Conjuring: Last Rites‘ Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed. Arrived in theaters on September 4, the Michael Chaves-directed fourth and last entry in The Conjuring series follows the fictional iterations of real-life paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) as they travel to a demon-invaded family home in Pennsylvania.

Last Rites marked the ninth installment in the Conjuring universe and sees the Warrens facing a new demonic enтιтy. Produced by New Line Cinema, Atomic Monster, and The Safran Company, the R-rated Warner Bros. movie made $8.5 million at preview, marking it the largest for the franchise.

Last Rites‘ Rotten Tomatoes score, on the other hand, sees critics and audience divided. At the time of writing, among the 127 film critics who reviewed the film, only 56% gave the movie a thumbs-up. The audiences overall had a better viewing experience, with 78% leaving a positive rating.

The 2021’s third entry, The Devil Made Me Do It had the same 56% RT score as Last Rites. However, its 83% audience score is better than the 2025 sequel, which currently has the lowest audience score in the series. Still, the movie is doing better than any of the spinoff projects, which all ended up with a “rotten” score, except for The Nun II (72%).

The Conjuring Last Rites 4 Art

The Conjuring: Last Rites has received both criticism and praise. Many argued that the movie suffered from pacing problems and the lack of thrilling elements, which significantly affected the viewing experience. On the other hand, its return to the haunted house investigation resonated with the series’ long-time fans. This seems to result in polarized reactions.

Even though Last Rites failed to satisfy everyone, its “fresh” audience score proves it to be a worthy watch. It’s also worth pointing out that many reputable publications, including ScreenRant (8/10), Bloody Disgusting, and Collider, all gave the movie a positive review.
