KotOR’s Darth Revan Makes His Disney Star Wars Debut (In The Last Way You’d Expect)

KotOR‘s Darth Revan has made his Disney debut, in the last place you’d expect. The award-winning Knights of the Old Republic games are set in the distant past, exploring a part of the Star Wars timeline thousands of years before the Skywalker saga. They are also, sadly, no longer considered part of the canon.

Lucasfilm highlighted “The Old Republic” on an official timeline back at Star Wars Celebration 2023, but this era hasn’t really been focused on in canon. Surprisingly, though, one character has just made the jump into the Disney era – albeit not into a canon story.

Darth Revan’s Unexpected Return

A new clip for LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy features KotOR‘s Darth Revan in an alliance with Obi-Wan Kenobi. These LEGO stories are set in an alternate timeline, one where reality itself has been mashed up – meaning you have Darth Jar Jar, Dark Rey, and now a version of Obi-Wan working with Darth Revan.

Amusingly, Darth Revan is currently silent; this means the character could be male or female. Although Darth Revan was male in Legends, players could choose between male and female versions in the KotOR games. So Darth Revan’s silence seems appropriate, leaving it up to viewers to decide (if they care to at all).

Will Darth Revan Ever Make His Canon Star Wars Debut?

Darth Revan in LEGO Star Wars Rebuild the Galaxy

We know a version of Darth Revan existed in canon; a Sith trooper legion in Rise of Skywalker was named after him. Still, Lucasfilm has been frustratingly reticent when it comes to telling us more about the current version of Revan, let alone showing him. This is likely tied to the KotOR revival that seems to have stalled.

It is, however, surely only a matter of time until Lucasfilm returns to this iconic property. KotOR may not be canon, but the characters and events from the games have been alluded to enough times to suggest writers and creatives are eager to head there. Star Wars Celebration deliberately used the familiar KotOR iconography to refer to the “Old Republic” period.

It is, of course, very entertaining to see Star Wars LEGO: Rebuild the Galaxy beat canon to the punch. There’s a good reason for this, though; this story is unconstrained by continuity, and it won’t have any enduring impact on the character’s legacy. An actual canon Darth Revan mention (or even an appearance) would be far more important for KotOR‘s legacy.
