While they have not all been hits, Sydney Sweeney is already having a big year in 2025. This kicked off with her movie Echo Valley, which premiered on Apple TV+. Despite having a big cast (Sweeney starred opposite Julianne Moore), Echo Valley‘s reviews were extremely mixed.
Her Echo Valley role led into an even bigger summer, where Sweeney was in two films released within the month of August. These were the SXSW film festival movie Americana and the Ron Howard movie Eden.
Once again, neither movie was a mᴀssive hit. Eden got really mixed reviews, with a 57% Tomatometer. Americana was better-received, but did not make any kind of significant box office splash. This left Sweeney with three releases in 2025 so far, but no really big movies.
Sweeney still has some тιтles left this year. Most notably, she will appear in Paul Feig’s thriller The Housemaid, which is scheduled for release on December 19. Now, a release date for one of her other upcoming films has been revealed, and it is a significant one.
Christy’s Release Date Has Been Revealed
The release date has been revealed for Christy. Directed by David Michôd, the film is a biopic of boxer Christy Martin, one of the most successful women in her field during her hit era. Sweeney will play the eponymous boxer, with a supporting cast that includes Katy O’Brian, Merritt Weaver, and Ben Foster.
Christy is set to make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will screen today, September 5, at 2pm EST.
As per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Christy‘s release date has now been officially revealed. The Sweeney-led biopic will be released in theaters on November 7, 2025. It will be distributed in the United States by Black Bear.
What This Means For Christy
Christy‘s release date is significant for a couple of reasons. For one, a November 7 release date situates it in a highly compeтιтive time for festival darling films at the box office. That weekend will also see the release of Die, My Love, Sentimental Value, and Nuremberg, all of which are buzzy for different reasons.
An early November release date also positions Christy in prime awards season for this year. The movie has garnered some discussion already going into TIFF. Black Bear is clearly riding this wave by letting it compete with other awards films during this release window.
Ultimately, this could mean that Sweeney herself is looking at award recognition for her leading role. While she is no stranger to Emmy nominations, Sweeney has never been nominated for an Oscar. If all goes well, Christy could be an entryway into this kind of award possibility.
