Alan Ritchson & Sylvester Stallone Team Up For Amazon’s New Navy SEAL Movie

Alan Ritchson and Sylvester Stallone are two of the biggest action heroes of their generations. Stallone is synonymous with redefining the action hero, particularly through his portrayal of Rambo in First Blood (1982) and its various sequels. From the 1980s to the 1990s, Stallone starred in various action films, from Cobra (1986), Tango and Cash (1989), Cliffhanger (1993), Demolition Man (1993), and The Specialist (1994).

Later, in 2010, Stallone created The Expendables franchise, paying homage to his status as an iconic action star. On the other hand, Ritchson’s physicality and commanding screen presence have made him a modern-day action star in his own right, best known for playing the тιтular character in Prime Video’s series, Reacher, since 2022.

Before Reacher, Ritchson played superheroes on television – Aquaman in The CW’s Smallville and Hawk in HBO Max’s тιтans. He has also appeared in film franchises like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) and Fast X (2023). Now, Ritchson is teaming up with Stallone for a new action movie.

Alan Ritchson and Sylvester Stallone are teaming up for Amazon’s new Navy SEAL movie. Ritchson recently finished filming Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi action movie War Machine, co-written and directed by Patrick Hughes, not to be confused with Netflix’s 2017 film of the same name starring Brad Pitt.

Ritchson has been on a roll recently, as he finished filming Amazon’s action-comedy Playdate with Kevin James and Amazon’s holiday family comedy The Man with the Bag, opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ritchson is currently filming Reacher season 4.

Now, according to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Alan Ritchson is starring in Amazon’s unтιтled movie about Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, which Sylvester Stallone will produce via his Balboa Productions banner. Ritchson is reteaming with director Patrick Hughes, with a screenplay co-written by Ritchson, Mark Semos, and Jason Hall (American Sniper, Thank You for Your Service).

The film will follow Navy SEAL Mike Thornton during the final days of the Vietnam War, as he leads a desperate defense after five soldiers become stranded deep in North Vietnam. Outnumbered by 150 enemy troops, the team endures relentless fire before staging a dangerous escape into the South China Sea.

Carrying both a severely injured lieutenant and another comrade tied to him, Thornton swims for hours through hostile waters to reach safety, an extraordinary act of heroism that would later earn him the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Ritchson and Stallone seem perfectly suited to bring the story of Navy SEAL Mike Thornton to the screen, thanks to their history of portraying military veterans themselves. Alan Ritchson‘s Reacher is a former U.S. Army military police officer, while Sylvester Stallone‘s Rambo is a soldier suffering from PTSD. Together, as actor and producer, they can capture Thornton’s extraordinary heroism on screen.
