Tom Holland’s Latest Spider-Man Comments Raise Huge Questions About Secret Wars

Tom Holland recently made some eyebrow-raising comments about the MCU’s Spider-Man, and it poses some significant questions about Avengers: Secret Wars. The prolific MCU actor is next due to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released on July 31, 2026, one year after the MCU’s most recent movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

It will be followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, which will feature a cavalcade of the MCU’s foremost heroes going toe-to-toe with Doctor Doom. At the time of writing, it is still unclear if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will be among them, as his name did not appear in the first wave of the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement.

Although it would make sense for one of the most illustrious MCU characters to join his colleagues in Avengers: Doomsday, behind-the-scenes complications could preclude him entirely. What is more likely, however, is that he will appear in the Multiverse Saga’s climactic movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, though what will happen beyond that is unclear.

Tom Holland recently spoke about Spider-Man’s future in an interview with LADbible, where he was asked about what comes next for Spider-Man after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland took the opportunity to stress the importance he places on doing justice to the character for fans before responding frankly that he doesn’t know what comes next, stating:

I think with anything, it’s all about what’s in front of you, and right now what’s in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film. I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings. I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans]. In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don’t know the answer to that.

It’s unlikely that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be Tom Holland’s final appearance in the MCU considering how bankable he is. Although Tom Holland has stated in the past that he is hopeful about naming a successor in a future MCU installment—something that could yet happen in Brand New Day—he’ll likely still have a role to play.

Holland’s tone does, however, raise questions about Spider-Man’s fate in Avengers: Secret Wars. His ᴀssertion that he doesn’t know what happens beyond Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t particularly reᴀssuring. Then again, Avengers: Secret Wars might be the springboard for a string of new movies with him at the helm. Whatever the case, it’s likely we’ll find out soon.

Avengers: Secret Wars is due to be released on December 17, 2027, so ascertaining Spider-Man’s fate is going to take some time yet. Nevertheless, more clues are just around the corner when Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases next year and paints a clearer picture.

It is likely that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will stick to MCU convention and set up the wall-crawler’s next cinematic appearance. Given that this will most likely occur in Avengers: Secret Wars or Avengers: Doomsday, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day post-credits scene could provide a sneak peek at either.

Considering he plays such an important role in the “Secret Wars” run of comics, one of the most anticipated and expected developments is that Miles Morales makes his MCU debut in Avengers: Secret Wars. Whether Miles appears first in Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains to be seen, but hopes are certainly high.
