Following a terrifying first trailer in June, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have released a new trailer for Black Phone 2. Directed once again by Scott Derrickson and co-written by C. Robert Cargill, the horror sequel picks up four years after the events of The Black Phone, as siblings Finney and Gwen Shaw try to move forward.
However, the trailer hints that their torment is far from over, as Ethan Hawke’s Grabber appears to have transformed into a supernatural presence who haunts them in dreams that spill dangerously into reality. The first trailer gave audiences a preview of the Grabber attacking Gwen through her dreams and Finney remaining psychologically linked to the killer.
Mason Thames (Finney), Madeleine McGraw (Gwen), and Jeremy Davis, who played their troubled father in the first film, are all reprising their roles alongside Ethan Hawke. The sequel also introduces new cast members, Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, Maev Beaty, and Graham Abbey.
The new trailer provides a fuller picture of how the Grabber returns despite being killed at the end of the first film. Now, Gwen’s psychic powers, introduced in The Black Phone, become central to the plot, as she begins having visions of potential victims of the Grabber. Black Phone 2 is set to premiere in theatres on October 17; check the trailer out below:
What The New Black Phone 2 Trailer Reveals About The Movie
While the first trailer introduced the Grabber’s supernatural return, this new trailer offers insight into key details of Black Phone 2′s plot. Gwen looks to be the main victim of the Grabber’s torture. Instead of lurking in basements, the Grabber takes hold of Gwen’s dreams and even manifests wounds she receives while asleep.
These dream sequences are reminiscent of Freddy Krueger’s legacy but carry the grounded dread of Derrickson’s style, blending psychological torment with visceral scares. The trailer also teases Alpine Lake, the winter camp that may be the eerie location where much of the sequel will unfold.
The snowy setting of Alpine Lake also brings a new visual idenтιтy to the franchise. The frozen landscapes evoke both beauty and fear, as the isolated camp creates a new kind of claustrophobia for the victims.
The trailer also features glimpses of group settings at the camp, and while their fate remains uncertain, the addition of new characters broadens both the scope of the story and the reach of the Grabber.
Other moments spotlight Finney’s trauma as the Grabber’s sole survivor, and as he struggles to escape the shadow of his captivity. The ringing of the black phone continues to haunt him, confirming that his connection to the killer is far from broken. Together, Gwen’s worsening visions and Finney’s trauma set the stage for a sequel that raises the stakes for everyone involved.
Our Take On The New Black Phone 2 Trailer
The new trailer alone cements Hawke’s Grabber as one of modern horror’s most compelling villains. The first film portrays him as a chillingly realistic kidnapper, but Black Phone 2 has transformed him into something mythic. By giving him supernatural powers tied to dreams and trauma, Derrickson and Hill have elevated the Grabber into the same league as horror icons Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Pennywise.
Making this film more exciting is the anticipation of how it will balance horror spectacle with high emotional stakes. If it fulfills what the trailer promises, Black Phone 2 has the potential not only to surpᴀss its predecessor but also to launch one of Blumhouse’s most enduring franchises.
