Jordan Peele’s Next Movie Gets Disappointing Update, Is Removed From Universal’s Calendar

The next Jordan Peele movie has received a disappointing update. The three previous Jordan Peele-directed horror movies–Get Out, Us, and Nope–have all been critical hits, with Get Out widely considered to be the best so far.

Peele’s next film, which is the first he has directed since Nope in 2022, was originally set to be released in December 2024. Due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, the project was rescheduled for October 2026. Other than being a horror thriller, all other details about the movie remain under wraps.

Now, Universal Pictures has removed Peele’s upcoming movie from the October 2026 window on their release calendar. Peele is still working on the film, which has yet to enter production.

What This Means For Jordan Peele’s Next Movie

Peele’s next movie appears not to be as far along as expected given the previous release window of October 2026. The Halloween season would have been the perfect time for the horror thriller film to debut in theaters, but there will be a longer wait, with 2027 now being the earliest that the movie could be released.

Between Get Out releasing in 2017, Us in 2019, and Nope in 2022, a 2026 premiere was already going to be the longest gap yet between the movies that Peele has directed. That gap will now be even longer, since there will be at least five years that pᴀss between Nope and the in-development film.

A movie being removed from a studio’s release calendar sometimes does not bode well for it eventually becoming a reality. Given Peele’s past success and having worked with Universal on all his previous movies, though, this should not be a concern for his new film. It is taking longer than expected, but it will definitely still happen.

Our Take On The Delay For Jordan Peele’s Next Movie

With Get Out being one of the all-time best horror movies, there is understandably a great deal of anticipation about what Peele’s next film will be. This makes it all the more disappointing that the mysterious project has been delayed, especially when it has already moved from its original slot during December 2024.

That being said, Jordan Peele is one of modern Hollywood’s most inventive directors. He took his time to craft three of the most memorable, original, and bold horror movies of the past decade. Based on his proven track record, the wait will be worth it for his next movie, and it is better to be delayed than to rush a dissatisfying final product.
