Ice Age 6 now has an official тιтle and a new release date. The animated movie will be the seventh feature-length installment in the franchise, which follows the adventures of the sloth Sid (John Leguizamo), the mammoth Manny (Ray Romano), and the saber-toothed tiger Diego (Denis Leary) during the Pleistocene ice age.

The upcoming Ice Age 6 was officially announced in 2024, nearly a decade after the release of the most recent installment in the main branch of the franchise, 2016’s Ice Age: Collision Course. The movie is set to feature the return of Leguizamo, Romano, and Leary alongside Simon Pegg as Buckminster “Buck” Wild and Queen Latifah as Ellie.

At D23, Disney announced that the upcoming Ice Age sequel will be тιтled Ice Age: Boiling Point and is scheduled to debut in February 2027. The announcement post also confirms that “the newest adventure takes the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World!“

What This Means For Ice Age 6

While many details about the upcoming Ice Age movie are still being kept under wraps, this update hints at a few key elements of the project.

The first is that the Ice Age characters will return to the Lost World, which is the underground land of dinosaurs that has been featured in multiple previous installments. The region was the primary setting of the third movie, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and the subsequent spinoff Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild.

Generally, the Ice Age franchise has not had a particularly faithful approach to the actual events of Earth’s history. However, because the previous installment of the franchise, Collision Course, concerned an asteroid hurtling toward the planet, Boiling Point could imply that the characters will have to deal with the planet’s temperature continuing to increase.

This may not prove to be the case, however. The first sequel in the franchise was тιтled The Meltdown and already covered similar territory, so it is possible that the тιтle of the new installment in the Ice Age franchise is merely a clever way to refer to the fact that tensions between the characters are at an all-time high.

While no footage or major story details have been revealed yet, the fact that the release date has only been delayed by a few months would seem to indicate that the movie’s production schedule is still going relatively smoothly, so shareable footage should be available sooner than later.
