The digital release of a horror movie reimagining of a Disney classic has now arrived. Many classic animated movies made by Walt Disney Animation Studios are adapted from fairy tales or classic children’s novels, including Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid.
Multiple Disney animated movies, and the stories behind them, have been remade in a variety of ways. Some of these remakes are produced by Disney themselves, and they include the billion-dollar live-action hits The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. However, non-Disney тιтles include fairy tale retellings like Snow White and the Huntsman and even horror movie versions.
Bambi: The Reckoning Debuts On Digital
Bambi: The Reckoning‘s VOD release has arrived, more than a month after its theatrical debut on July 25. The horror movie reimagines Felix Salten’s novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, which was previously adapted into a Disney animated feature in 1942. The new version finds the тιтular deer on a vengeful, bloodthirsty rampage after his mother’s death.
The movie, which was directed by Dan Allen (Mummy Reborn), boasts an ensemble cast that includes Game of Thrones‘ Roxanne McKee, Slow Horses‘ Tom Mulheron, Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2‘s Nicola Wright, and Love Island‘s Samira Mighty.
Bambi: The Reckoning is the latest installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe franchise, which is an interconnected movie franchise that features killer versions of classic children’s characters. The previous installments are 2023’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its 2024 sequel, as well as 2025’s Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.
ITN Distribution has announced that Bambi: The Reckoning is now officially available for purchase and rental on VOD, via Amazon only. Rentals are $11.99 in standard definition and $12.99 in high definition, while purchases are $18.98 in standard definition and $19.98 in high definition.
The movie has not yet garnered any reviews on the Amazon platform, but it has previously performed well on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, its 63% Tomatometer score from critics marks the best score of the entire Twisted Childhood Universe and makes it the only Fresh installment of the four.
What This Means For Bambi: The Reckoning
Bambi: The Reckoning has arrived on VOD just in time to propel awareness of the Twisted Childhood Universe through the end of the year. There won’t be another installment in the horror franchise until the upcoming Pinocchio: Unstrung and Poohniverse: Monsters ᴀssemble arrive in 2026, and they could benefit if the latest installment performs well at home in the meantime.
