All 6 Upcoming Star Wars Movies, Ranked By Hype

After 7 years, Star Wars will finally make its return to theaters with The Mandalorian & Grogu in 2026. However, the upcoming film from director Jon Favreau and starring Pedro Pascal isn’t the only Star Wars movie currently in the works. Multiple projects have been announced, and all of them sound incredibly exciting.

Recent years saw Lucasfilm getting into the habit of premature announcements, with projects ultimately being canceled, delayed, or left in limbo. As such, the statuses of Taika Waiтιтi’s unтιтled Star Wars movie, Donald Glover’s Lando movie, and Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron remain nebulous. However, here are the more concrete upcoming Star Wars movies, ranked by our level of hype.

Rey Skywalker’s New Jedi Order Movie

Rey Skywalker’s New Jedi Order will reportedly be set 15 years after the events of 2019’s Rise of Skywalker. Starring Daisy Ridley reprising her role as the sequel trilogy’s lead protagonist, this new film will see Rey looking to rebuild her very own version of the Jedi Order, looking to succeed where Luke Skywalker failed.

However, “New Jedi Order” has not been confirmed as the Star Wars movie’s official тιтle. We also know that the movie is set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Currently, we don’t know if other sequel trilogy characters like Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron or John Boyega’s Finn will be featured in what essentially sounds like an “Episode X”.

While Daisy Ridley has confirmed that she loves the script and story, it remains to be seen what the full movie’s plot will be about, as well as how Rey specifically intends to build a New Jedi Order that can thrive.

James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi

James Mangold and the Prime Jedi.

Said to be a biblical epic exploring the earliest days of the Star Wars timeline, James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi is exactly what it sounds like it’s going to be about: a film starring the origins of the First Jedi, 25,000 years before the events of the Skywalker saga.

While there is no confirmed release date just yet, it’s exciting to think about the mᴀssive sandbox of opportunity Mangold has to work with.

After all, the incredibly early period means Mangold doesn’t have to worry nearly as much about continuity and canon, save for potentially including David Tennant’s Professor Huyang, the oldest known Star Wars droid built by the First Jedi to help Padawans construct their lightsabers.

While not confirmed, it would certainly be a fun and exciting way to bridge this early movie with the rest of the franchise, as Professor Huyang is one of the most beloved Star Wars droids in recent memory.

Simon Kinberg’s Trilogy

It’s also been confirmed that Simon Kinberg is actively writing an entire new trilogy for the Star Wars franchise. While we don’t currently know what this new trilogy will be about, Kinberg has cited both The Empire Strikes Back and Andor as key inspirations.

Kinberg recently talked about his intention to balance high stakes with personal character beats, something that would be very exciting to see with new Star Wars characters can fully resonate with in the midst of whatever major galactic crisis might be occurring.

Despite specific story details being unknown, it’s very exciting to think about all the possibilities, like with Mangold’s Star Wars movie. After all, a new Star Wars trilogy doesn’t have to be connected to the Skywalker saga (and perhaps it shouldn’t be).

With the entire galaxy far, far away to work with, it’s going to be fascinating to see what kind of story we might get when Kinberg’s trilogy gets closer to production.

Dave Filoni’s Star Wars Movie

Confirmed to be set in the New Republic Era, Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie will reportedly serve as the culmination of all the New Republic-set shows we’ve seen so far, particularly The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Having drawn comparisons to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Thanos, the large presumption is that Dave Filoni’s movie might focus on a final stand against Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Imperial Remnant, paving the way for the dawn of the First Order that we see in the sequel trilogy.

However, it’s currently unknown when we might see Filoni’s culminating movie, as there are still a handful of New Republic Era projects that have to release first, like Jon Favreau’s Mandalorian & Grogu, and Filoni’s own Ahsoka season 2 releasing in 2026, not to mention any other projects we might potentially get as well.

Nevertheless, a Star Wars movie that ties multiple projects together MCU-style does sound incredibly exciting.

The Mandalorian & Grogu

The first Star Wars movie to hit the big screen since Rise of Skywalker, 2026’s The Mandalorian & Grogu will be a full-feature continuation of The Mandalorian series on Disney+.

Starring Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin and his newly adopted son Grogu, the duo will be working alongside the New Republic government to track down Imperial Remnant forces. The film also stars Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic colonel as well as Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba.

Based on the exclusive footage released at Star Wars Celebration 2025, the upcoming movie from director Jon Favreau looks like it will be an incredibly fun and action-packed epic, like a scene where Din Djarin takes out an entire Imperial Walker from the inside. Who in the world wouldn’t be hyped for classic Star Wars like that?

Having just started production on August 28th, 2027’s Star Wars: Starfighter is quickly becoming one of the most exciting projects to date.

Starring Ryan Gosling as the lead protagonist, we know that Gosling’s character will be protecting a young boy from dark forces (played by Flynn Gray). Actors Matt Smith and Mia Goth are set to play villains, while Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre will have roles in the upcoming Star Wars movie as well.

Set only five years after The Rise of Skywalker, 2027’s Star Wars: Starfighter is also being directed by ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine’s Shawn Levy.

By its cast alone, Starfighter is shaping up to be one of the most unique and intriguing Star Wars movies ever, and I’m incredibly hyped to learn more and see the film when it releases two years from now.

The Mandalorian & Grogu releases May 22nd, 2026. Star Wars: Starfighter releases May 28th, 2027.
