Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s latest update relates to its action scenes, and I could not be more thrilled for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after learning who is involved. The MCU Spider-Man trilogy did a wonderful job of revitalizing the character after The Amazing Spider-Man movies faltered. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has had many exciting appearances in the franchise, with Spider-Man action top-notch.
That said, I was open to a more practical approach to Spider-Man’s action sequences after three movies that relied more on CGI. Don’t get me wrong, the MCU Spider-Man trilogy has great fight scenes, but it is undeniable that pairing the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings with Spidey for the upcoming MCU movie is a genius move.
After all, while Shang-Chi was not a box office hit like the MCU Spider-Man movies, it does feature some of the best hand-to-hand fight sequences of the franchise, perhaps even featuring Marvel’s best live-action fight scenes. That is not a small feat for a superhero franchise, where action is fundamental. That said, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has more than just its director.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Action Scenes Just Got A Major Upgrade
Sure, bringing in Destin Daniel Cretton to work on a Spider-Man movie is a sign that the action of the franchise will be overhauled, but we now know for sure that a major cinematic legend will have a hand in that in a way. Speaking to the Hong Kong-based outlet HK01, Hollywood star Jackie Chan talked about the MCU’s next Spider-Man movie.
No, Chan will not appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, or at least that is not what the new MCU update means for now. During the interview, the famous action movie star explained that his stunt team is working with Cretton on Marvel’s next Spider-Man movie. For now, it is not clear if Chan was directly involved with his team’s work on the film.
That said, the veteran actor showed up on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to watch his team in rehearsals, with Chan claiming that he caught director Destin Daniel Cretton by surprise, as he “immediately got nervous and started trembling.” According to Chan, his stunt team is working on the Spider-Man movie as “action directors.”
Whether he is directly involved in the film or not, the mere fact that Jackie Chan’s stunt team is a key part of the process of designing the action for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has got me more excited about the MCU movie. After all, Chan’s resume speaks for itself when it comes to action scenes.
Anyone trained by Chan or working with him should be more than talented enough to make Tom Holland’s Spider-Man look the best he has yet in action scenes. Adding that to Cretton’s work on Shang-Chi, as well as the inclusion of characters like the Punisher and Scorpion in the film, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day sounds like an action-packed epic.
