Nicolas Cage’s New Horror Movie Gets Chilling First Trailer

Nicolas Cage is returning to the horror genre, with the teaser trailer for 2025’s The Carpenter’s Son having just been released. Cage has appeared in countless movies across many genres, but perhaps most relevant to this upcoming project is 2024’s Longlegs, as the actor made waves last year playing the killer in the psychological horror.

The Carpenter’s Son, directed by Lofty Nathan, will be a biblical horror reimagining of Jesus’ childhood, following a family in Roman Egypt. Inspired by the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, the movie depicts a son known as “The Boy” (Noah Jupe) who doubts his guardian, known as “The Carpenter” (Cage). The Boy has his own power and rebels against The Carpenter, triggering other horrors.

The Carpenter’s Son also stars FKA twigs as “Mother,” and does not yet have a definitive release date, but Magnolia Pictures advertises that it will arrive in theaters “Fall 2025 AD.” The brief teaser, not even 30 seconds long, shows The Carpenter looking over a rising sun, and seemingly observing The Boy from a distance.

What This Means For The Carpenter’s Son

Following Longlegs, it will be exciting to see the National Treasure actor take on another horror role, especially one as apparently multidimensional and mysterious as this one is. The early marketing keeps the bulk of the plot under wraps, making the nature of any of the characters in the story extremely enigmatic.

While chilling and prompting a lot of questions, the short teaser clearly demonstrates that a core conflict and theme in The Carpenter’s Son is between the father and son figures, as Cage’s character seems to be trying to oversee the family, only to not understand the power that The Boy is gripped by.

On the other hand, FKA twigs and Noah Jupe are intriguing choices to star alongside Cage. The former is known for her music career but starred in Bill Skarsgård’s remake of The Crow, suggesting she has a continued interest in horror movies. However, it is Jupe who is extremely promising, having starred in Ford v Ferrari and A Quiet Place, making his on-screen interactions with Cage something to look forward to.

We don’t know yet how The Carpenter’s Son will engage with its source material, but the interpersonal relationships could be the driving force of this movie and make it a standout addition to the horror genre. The basic premise does tell us that it will focus on this small family unit, which could mean a very intimate story with some performances as chilling as the first trailer.
