“Well, Selfishly”: Former Superman Star Wants To Play Batman In James Gunn’s DC Universe

A previous Superman actor wants to join James Gunn’s DC Universe as Batman for The Brave and the Bold movie. With the DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” underway, one of the biggest projects that is in development at DC Studios is the Batman reboot for the new superhero universe.

The Brave and the Bold movie is set to center on Bruce Wayne building his father/son dynamic with Damian Wayne, a.k.a. Robin, while also tackling the larger Bat-Family in Gunn’s DCU. While casting has yet to start, several actors in Hollywood have expressed their interest in taking on the iconic superhero role for DC Studios.

At this year’s FAN EXPO Canada (ScreenRant is a media partner of Fan Expo Canada), ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier hosted the Men of Steel panel with actors who have played Superman, and brought up whether they thought Robert Pattinson’s Batman would fit into Gunn’s DCU. However, Tyler Hoechlin, who played Krypton’s last son in the Arrowverse, would actually want to play the Dark Knight himself.

Check out the actor’s comments from the panel below:

ScreenRant: Have you guys seen Robert Pattinson [as] Batman? Do you think that Robert Pattinson’s Batman fits into James Gunn’s DCU?

Tyler Hoechlin: Well, selfishly, I’m going to say no because I still want to play Batman. I think and I say that Rob did a fantastic, fantastic job and [with] Matt Reeves it was great. So I’m happy to let them keep doing their thing, and maybe leave the door open…

Hoechlin first appeared as the Man of Tomorrow in Supergirl season 2 before returning for numerous Arrowverse crossovers. The former Teen Wolf star also went on to star as the DC hero in Superman & Lois until 2024 as part of the Arrowverse multiverse.

While there has been a lot of interest in seeing Pattinson’s Batman in the DCU, DC Studios has made it clear numerous times that the Matt Reeves universe will remain an Elseworlds property. As Hoechlin put it himself, The Batman universe works better as its own enтιтy, while letting Gunn’s franchise go with a new take on the character.

Since the Batman casting for DC Studios won’t start until The Brave and the Bold‘s script is completed, time will tell who will actually portray the famous superhero for DC Studios. Whether or not Hoechlin will be someone that Gunn considers for the gig also remains to be seen.

After hearing that Hoechlin would love to play the DCU’s Batman, I think that the former Superman & Lois star would be an incredible choice. As Hoechlin has played darker characters in the past, he would be a great fit for Bruce in The Brave and the Bold.

The DC movie’s father-son story would also not be unfamiliar territory to Hoechlin, as his Superman was explored as a dad during his Arrowverse tenure, which came to a premature end after only four seasons. Hopefully, when the DCU gets around to starting casting for The Brave and the Bold, Hoechlin will at least be considered for the тιтular role.
