Bone Lake is an upcoming erotic thriller and psychological horror from director Mercedes Bryce Morgan and film company Bleecker Street, and it’s just debuted a new trailer ahead of its theatrical release on October 3. The new movie follows a couple who vacation at a remote estate but are forced to share the locale with another couple, kicking off a horrific chain of events.
Bone Lake stars Maddie Hᴀsson, Alex Roe, Andra Nechita, Marco Pigossi, Clayton Spencer, and Eliane Reis. Debuting at Fantastic Fest in September 2024, Bone Lake earned great first reviews and still holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Check out the trailer for Bone Lake below:
What The Bone Lake Trailer Means For The Movie
The new trailer teases that Bone Lake will strike a unique balance with its Sєxy elements and its horror-thriller elements, a combination not often seen anymore. The most recent example of a movie that features this combo, to some degree at least, is actually Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed Sinners (2025), which has been a mᴀssive success.
So far, Bone Lake has also been very warmly received. The film enjoys a strong 95% Rotten Tomatoes score from 20 critics’ reviews, with praise aimed at its fun genre elements and storytelling, in addition to its wild climax. This score, however, is sure to change as more reviews are added, and an audience-driven Popcornmeter score will arrive as well.
Bone Lake has been given an R rating for “strong bloody violence, grisly images, Sєxual content, graphic nudity, language throughout and some drug use.“
While things may start off more in thriller territory, the Bone Lake trailer makes clear that things will eventually devolve into pure bloody horror. The addition of both an ax and a chainsaw, for example, suggests there are some truly violent sequences to come, and previous trailers reinforce this.
One major question that remains after the trailer concludes is just who is pulling the strings. One of the characters suggests that the mansion being double-booked was intentional, while another sH๏τ suggests they’re all being watched on hidden cameras. Bone Lake could be poised to introduce a truly sinister villain.
Our Take On The Bone Lake Trailer
Netflix’s Fair Play (2023) doesn’t look too similar to Bone Lake, but it could be described as an erotic thriller. With Sinners, Fair Play, and now Morgan’s upcoming film, the erotic horror-thriller subgenre could be making a comeback, and maybe it’s about time.
There continues to be debate over how much Sєx and nudity audiences actually want in movies these days, but, when executed correctly, the addition of a Sєxual charge to storytelling aimed at adult audiences can add an interesting new element to the experience.
It remains to be seen how Bone Lake fares with audiences, but the trailer suggests it will be a twisty and unpredictable ride with character dynamics that cross all sorts of sinister boundaries. This is one to look forward to.
