Jurᴀssic World Rebirth may not be the biggest game-changer in the long-running adventure franchise, but the sequel definitely feels like a breath of fresh air in comparison to the recent underwhelming installments. The film is clearly intended to spark a new phase of the saga, and Rebirth’s exceptional box office performance means this is very likely to come true.

There’s been no official confirmation that Jurᴀssic World 5 is coming, but it almost seems like a certainty at this stage. Thankfully, there are several key details in Rebirth’s story that neatly set the stage for a continuation of this narrative, leaving the door open for these new characters to return in fun and exciting ways.

Where Are All The Mutated Dinosaurs?

The main story of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth centers around a mysterious InGen facility in the middle of the jungle, where scientists had been experimenting on dinosaurs and creating new, genetically engineered breeds, presumably to have on display at the Jurᴀssic World park. However, when the main characters arrive at the research station, only a few of the dinosaurs remain.

It’s logical to ᴀssume that InGen’s mutated dinosaurs got out into the wild during the Distortus Rex’s break-out seventeen years before Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s story kicks off, but the characters don’t encounter any of these new creatures during their travels. They find the dinosaurs they were expecting, alongside a handful of mutated ones in the area around the facility.

In the years since the D-Rex slaughtered the InGen scientists and escaped into the wild, it’s hard to imagine that the species remained solely in that location and didn’t breed in the wild. But if that’s the case, it’s equally strange that Henry and Zora didn’t encounter any before reaching the lab. Those dinosaurs must be somewhere, and Jurᴀssic World 5 can explain where.

Duncan Needs To Rebuild His Relationship

The relationship between Duncan and his ex-partner is only mentioned briefly in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, but it seems like a very important character detail that’s hopefully going to be explored in the future. Thanks to Mahershala Ali’s brilliant performance, Duncan ended up being one of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s best characters, and a sequel would do well to capitalize on his storyline.

With Duncan surviving the D-Rex encounter at the end of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, it makes sense that he’d develop a newfound purpose and graтιтude for life that could bring him back into contact with his ex-partner, Amelia. According to Duncan, the pair split up following the loss of their son and have never managed to make things work since.

For a character whose family never actually appears in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, there’s a lot of attention given to Duncan and his past relationship in this film, which is seemingly teasing a reunion in the future. Although Jurᴀssic World 5 hasn’t been confirmed, it definitely seems like the writers were sowing the seeds for a future subplot through Duncan’s character.

The Dinosaurs Can’t Really Die Out, Can They?

Perhaps the biggest revelation of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, though it doesn’t play a major role in this particular story, is that the dinosaurs are beginning to go extinct – again. The movie opens with a brontosaurus causing havoc in the middle of a crosswalk, to which Zora comments that most of the creatures are “ᴅᴇᴀᴅ or dying.” This is a major change from the world of Jurᴀssic World Dominion.

It’s later revealed that most of the dinosaurs have migrated to tropical, equatorial landscapes to escape the effects of global warming and industrialization. This is the only place where dinosaurs can live safely, and it gives the film a very interesting subtext about environmental protection and the safeguarding of animal habitats. It’s thematic storytelling like this that makes Rebirth one of the best Jurᴀssic Park movies of recent years.

Although the dinosaur’s impending extinction feels like somewhat of a background event, it definitely sets the stage for a more overarching storyline in the coming sequels. Watching Henry’s excitement at finding the тιтanosaurus is one of Rebirth’s most touching scenes, and audiences should expect more moments like this as Henry and Zora potentially try and save the dinosaurs in the future.

Parker-Genix Won’t Be Happy About Open Source Dino DNA

Perhaps the biggest cliffhanger of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s ending is how Parker-Genix will react to Henry and Zora’s decision to give the dinosaur DNA to the world, saving countless lives and preventing the privatization of this medical breakthrough. It’s clearly the right thing to do, but it goes against their agreement with the pharmaceutical company and will certainly have some consequences.

Although Martin Krebs won’t be returning in the future, the executives at Parker-Genix will definitely hold a grudge against Henry and Zora, which could cause some major trouble for the two protagonists. It’s unclear exactly how Parker-Genix would get their revenge, but as this franchise is always quick to remind viewers, life finds a way.

There have also been some interesting theories about Parker-Genix being somehow related to InGen, the biotech company that was responsible for the creation of the original Jurᴀssic Park. If this is the case, the stage has already been perfectly set for InGen’s return in Jurᴀssic World 5, along with, potentially, the creation of another dinosaur research facility.

Zora & Henry’s Relationship Is Only Just Beginning

Although the ending of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth stops short of explicitly confirming a romance between Zora and Henry, their dynamic certainly leans that way throughout the film. The pair start out fairly cagey with one another, as Henry doesn’t trust Zora’s intentions for going on the expedition. But as the pair spends time with each other, Zora realizes that doing the right thing is more important than making money.

This offers some really touching character development, and it runs both ways. Henry also finds himself moved by how far Zora is willing to go to protect her friends, and their exchange in Rebirth’s final scene suggests a romance may be on the cards in a future sequel.

Even if this isn’t the case in Jurᴀssic World 5, it will still be fascinating to see how Henry and Zora change each other throughout the course of the series. Especially if they come into conflict with InGen and have to go rogue to protect the dinosaurs from the company’s genetically exploitative research, Henry and Zora will make a very strong team.

Using Dinosaur DNA For Medicine Could Have Unintended Consequences

If there’s one thing that never goes well in the Jurᴀssic Park franchise, it’s when humans try and disrupt the natural order and use dinosaurs for their own benefit. Whether that’s putting them on display in theme parks or selling their DNA to the highest bidder, this franchise always manages to put the humans in their place by the end of the story.

With that in mind, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s attempts to use dinosaur DNA to cure human diseases seem like an accident waiting to happen. It’s possible that Jurᴀssic World 5 will follow the scrapped ideas for Jurᴀssic Park 4 and introduce human/dinosaur hybrids, created by the DNA from Île Saint-Hubert.

This would be a very interesting way of bringing Henry and Zora back together, as they would be directly responsible for giving this dangerous DNA coding to the general public. It could subvert the ending of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth in a fascinating way, causing the heroes to come back together to undo the very thing they tried so hard to accomplish in the first movie.
