Don’t Scroll Past Hulu’s New Movie From ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s Writers

A new movie you should definitely check out from the writers of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is now on Hulu. There are plenty of great movies on Hulu, with another coming from the Marvel veterans. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote all three ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movies, with the Marvel trilogy undoubtedly being their most well-known works.

However, Reese and Wernick have also penned movies like Zombieland, Zombieland: Double Tap, Life, and the Ryan Reynolds Netflix project 6 Underground. While not one of Netflix’s most-watched movies, 6 Underground was emblematic of some of the strengths of Reese and Wernick, stemming from movies like Zombieland and the ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool trilogy.

The duo is known for writing fast-paced comedies with witty banter amid action movie backgrounds. The comedy is often self-referential, especially in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool‘s case. In August 2025, another of their movies was released on Hulu, and although it may not be one of the most anticipated films of 2025, it should not be one that audiences blindly scroll past.

Eenie Meanie Is A Very Different Movie From The ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool Writers

The movie, released on August 22 on Hulu, is Eenie Meanie, and is a very different project from the ones usually ᴀssociated with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool‘s writers. Eenie Meanie stars Samara Weaving as Edie, a getaway driver who once committed crimes alongside her boyfriend. Upon reuniting with her now-ex-boyfriend, Edie is pulled into a dangerous casino heist.

For starters, Eenie Meanie is not a superhero movie, already marking a difference from the three biggest projects written by Reese and Wernick. Secondly, it does not contain the self-referential humor of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool or, to a lesser extent, 6 Underground. Instead, Eenie Meanie is best described as a heist thriller.

The film focuses predominantly on Edie as a getaway driver and the heist she is forced to commit alongside her ex-boyfriend. Naturally, with Edie’s occupation being a focus, Eenie Meanie also includes several action chase sequences. Reese and Wernick are no strangers to this, but this time they look slightly different without the injection of meta comedy from prior movies.

Directed by Shawn Simmons, known for creating the John Wick TV spin-off The Continental, the film places a focus on the crime and action elements of Eenie Meanie. As already alluded to, this is a departure from the typical projects taken on by Reese and Wernick.

As such, Eenie Meanie was anticipated by many. It has a great lead star and a writing duo that have been known to craft compelling action movies. This time, though, Eenie Meanie is adding in more thriller elements than the typical comedic ones ᴀssociated with the writers of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, proving the former to be a movie you should not simply scroll past on Hulu.
