Hulu’s New Heist Thriller With Scream Star Debuts With Underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes Score

The new heist movie from Hulu has debuted with an underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes score. The streaming platform, which originally launched in 2007, is now owned by Disney Streaming and offers a vast library of television shows that includes FX hits such as The Bear and Shōgun.

While they are perhaps best known for their television offerings, there have also been a number of Hulu original movies that have found critical or commercial success. This includes the sci-fi prequel Prey, the horror reboot Hellraiser, and the John Cena comedies Vacation Friends and Vacation Friends 2. However, their new heist movie is failing to hit that same mark.

Eenie Meanie Has Provoked A Mixed Reaction

Hulu’s Eenie Meanie has failed to connect with critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, which was written and directed by Shawn Simmons, follows a former getaway driver being dragged back into her past life of crime when she needs to save her ex-boyfriend.

The Eenie Meanie cast is led by Scream VI‘s Samara Weaving and Nocturnal Animals‘ Karl Glusman, though it also features Marshawn Lynch, Jermaine Fowler, Mike O’Malley, Steve Zahn, Randall Park, and Andy Garcia.

Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated 25 different critics’ reviews of Eenie Meanie, which is enough for it to earn an official score on the Tomatometer. While the score could fluctuate as more reviews are added, it has earned a firmly Rotten score of 44% at the time of writing.

Generally, critics say the movie is fun and praise Samara Weaving’s performance, but find the story overstuffed, clichéd, and tonally confusing. The movie is mostly receiving scores between 4 out of 10 and 6 out of 10, indicating a more mixed reaction than a powerfully negative one.

There are very few extraordinarily low or extraordinarily high scores from any Eenie Meanie reviews, though it has so far earned one score of 1 out of 4 and no scores giving it perfect marks.

What This Means For Eenie Meanie

This Rotten Tomatoes score for 2025’s Eenie Meanie breaks a long-running H๏τ streak for Samara Weaving. This is far from her first-ever splat on the Tomatometer, as she has appeared in movies including 2016’s Monster Trucks (32%), 2021’s Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe: Origins (35%), and 2022’s Babylon (57%), but the overwhelming majority of her movies have Fresh scores.

Overall, out of 16 Samara Weaving films that have scores on the Tomatometer, only five have splats. Additionally, ahead of her new Hulu movie, she starred in a string of four Fresh films that have premiered since late 2022, including Chevalier (76%), Scream VI (77%), and Borderline (61%).
