James Gunn’s Superman Went Super Sonic On This Huge Record Over $1.4B Blockbuster

James Gunn’s Superman earns another huge record as the DC Universe film gets closer to the end of its theatrical run. All the hard work is paying off for DC Studios when it comes to the Superman movie, as the DCU installment has successfully brought the Man of Steel back to the big screen.

From a lot of positive Superman movie reviews, to currently being the highest-grossing superhero movie for 2025, the DCU is off to a solid start, especially after the final struggling years for the DCEU movie franchise. While the DC Studios entry has had multiple box office milestones, Gunn’s film has now broken a different record.

As Superman continues its theatrical run and has now become available through digital, Letterboxd has revealed that the DC Studios film has crossed a huge milestone on the popular platform. Gunn’s superhero movie has joined Letterboxd’s Two Million Watched Club, as the DCU movie has had its fastest premiere, with two million having registered that they watched the movie within 45 days.

The record for the installment has now surpᴀssed another major Warner Bros. film, as Gunn’s superhero installment beats the Barbie movie from 2023. The Margot Robbie-starring film previously had the record of joining Letterboxd’s Two Million Watched Club after 104 days.

2025 has proven that Krypton’s last son still remains relevant in the world of pop culture, especially with social media platforms like Letterboxd having more voices to be heard from the everyday audience. The fact that two million registered that they had seen the comic book film within 45 days also showcases how big the pᴀssion is for Gunn’s DC installment.

It’s likely the Superman digital release has played a huge factor in becoming Letterboxd’s Two Million Watched Club’s top film, as many have probably purchased the film to either relive it or experience it for the first time. With digital sales while still in theaters, it’s not a shock that Gunn’s film landed this milestone on Letterboxd, with the platform being highly popular for moviegoers.

Seeing the Man of Tomorrow’s latest cinematic interpretation having this success both in terms of its reception and commercially, it will be exciting to see where DC Studios takes the DC icon in the future. After the Superman post-credits scene, audiences will likely see Corenswet’s DCU hero back sooner rather than later.

As previously reported, Gunn is already working on the follow-up to his 2025 installment, which is ideally looking to start filming as soon as possible. Following the victorious trajectory for Superman, there will hopefully be more updates on what is next for Man of Steel in the near future.
