If you are looking for something to stream at home, an underseen sci-fi adventure from Pixar is now available. When it comes to commercial success, many 2025 movies deserved better box office totals than they received. Granted, there have been some success stories, but some big movies have underperformed in 2025.
Sci-fi is a category in which several of these underperformers have been found. If counting superhero movies as sci-fi, Thunderbolts* was a box office disappointment, despite being highly rated by fans and critics alike. Looking forward, there are several exciting sci-fi movies to come in 2025 that will surely perform, Avatar: Fire and Ash chief among them.
Looking back, however, the year has been somewhat underwhelming. Even the highly rated studio of Pixar has had a rough year in 2025 in the sci-fi genre. Hopefully, though, the studio’s underseen sci-fi adventure will be seen by more people now that it has been released on digital.
Elio Is Now Available On Digital After A Disappointing Box Office Performance
The Pixar movie in question is Elio. Elio‘s movie reviews were overly positive, claiming it to be a heartwarming, visually dazzling adventure as per Pixar’s expected standards. Despite that, Elio did not do well at the box office, earning only $151 million worldwide against a budget that reportedly caps out at $200 million.
This makes Elio the second-lowest-growing Pixar movie of all time, beating only 2020’s Onward, which was released during the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks a new commercial low for Pixar, regardless of how the film was received by audiences and critics.
As of August 19, 2025, though, Elio can be streamed on digital sales platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. On these platforms, Elio can be bought for $29.99 or rented for $24.99. This will allow families to catch up on the latest Pixar adventure, after so many failed to catch it in theaters.
Hopefully, Elio can find a second wind on digital. The box office performance of the movie was certainly underwhelming, failing even to outrank lesser-reviewed movies like Lightyear, The Good Dinosaur, and 2023’s Elemental. The latter was also considered an initial box office flop before having longer legs commercially than industry professionals thought it would have.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for Elio. That being said, a lot of films from 2025 have found success on digital platforms, be they Superman, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, or How to Train Your Dragon. There is hope that Elio does the same, allowing people to watch this underrated Pixar adventure after its disappointing box office run.
