Kurt Russell’s $1.46 Billion Blockbuster Dominates Netflix Charts

Kurt Russell has built an extraordinary career marked by versatility across genres, ranging from action-adventure and science fiction to westerns, romance, and comedy. His enduring partnership with director John Carpenter produced some of his most memorable performances, particularly his portrayals of complex anti-heroes in Escape from New York, Escape from L.A., The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China.

Beyond Carpenter’s movies, Russell demonstrated his range in a series of acclaimed films, including the firefighting drama Backdraft, playing legendary lawman Wyatt Earp in Tombstone, and venturing into sci-fi with Stargate. His later roles include Vanilla Sky and Miracle, while his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino on Death Proof, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood continued his relevance.

Russell has also left his mark on modern franchises, playing Mr. Nobody in the Fast & Furious saga and Ego in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In lighter fare, he reimagined Santa Claus for Netflix’s Christmas Chronicles, captivating a new generation. Yet it is his highest-grossing movie, which made over $1.51 billion at the box office, that is now dominating Netflix’s charts.

Furious 7 Dominates Netflix’s Charts

Furious 7 is dominating Netflix’s charts. Directed by James Wan – also known for Saw, Insidious, and Aquaman – the seventh film in the Fast & Furious franchise finds Kurt Russell’s covert ops leader, Mr. Nobody, enlisting Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel), Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), and their crew to stop terrorist Mose Jakande (Djimon Hounsou) from acquiring a powerful hacking program called God’s Eye.

The ensemble cast also includes Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Toretto, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej, Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto, and Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, all reprising their roles from previous films. Nathalie Emmanuel joins the franchise as Ramsey.

Now, a decade after its release, Furious 7 ranks fourth on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, August 18. It ranks below KPop Demon Hunters, Night Always Comes, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and above Kandahar, Happy Gilmore 2, Marry Me, H๏τel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, Despicable Me 2, and The Fast and the Furious (2001).
