Robert Pattinson’s Batman Could Meet The DCU’s Superman, Says Key Creative: “I Totally See [It]”

The possibility of seeing Robert Pattinson’s Batman meeting David Corenswet’s Superman in the DC Universe gets addressed by one of the key creatives of the 2025 film. Following Superman‘s ending, the Man of Steel’s latest cinematic journey has just begun, with DC Studios reportedly already working on bringing Krypton’s last son back to the DCU.

Time will tell what other DC characters David Corenswet’s hero will cross paths with after the Superman post-credits scenes, as there are plenty of options. One of the most famous heroes that fans are looking forward to seeing Superman encounter is Batman, while some specifically want Pattinson’s version to be the one to team up with Corenswet.

ScreenRant‘s Joe Deckelmeier recently interviewed Wētā’s Guy Williams, who worked on Superman as a VFX supervisor, about the making of the DCU installment. When Williams was asked if he could ever see Pattinson’s Batman fitting into the same world as the DCU’s Superman from a visual aesthetic standpoint, he said the following:

EXCLUSIVE: That is a hell of a good question. I would say yes. You’ve got to understand, directors are some of the most amazing creative people in the world. Their job is to figure out how to take a concept that barely holds in your brain and turn it into a two-hour story that you can see. So, I guarantee you that there’s a handful of directors out there that could figure out how to tie those two together and make it work.

It’s like saying, “Do you think that Rogue One Star Wars fits into the universe of the original Star Wars?” Because Rogue One was a lot darker than the original Star Wars trilogy.

There’s a certain ᴀssumption that cinematography is the emotion that the viewer feels when they’re watching a film as a privileged voyeur, for lack of a better term. And if I watch dogs running on a beach, and then I watch war, my brain sees those different ways. So to say that just because one’s sunny and one’s dark doesn’t mean that dogs exist in a different world and can never be on a beach.

There are movies that do that all the time, where you have a horrific movie and, all of a sudden, the guy looks out to the water and sees a moment of beauty, and it reminds him that the world’s [beautiful.] I totally see that you could tie those two together.

Pattinson is set to reprise the role of the Caped Crusader in 2027’s The Batman 2, with Matt Reeves back to direct. As of right now, The Batman 2‘s filming is expected to begin in 2026, with a handful of actors from 2022’s The Batman areturning for the sequel.

What Guy Williams’ Batman Comments Mean For The DCU

While Williams’ comments about how Pattinson’s Batman could theoretically fit in the same world as Corenswet’s Superman make sense, DC Studios has already decided what their plans are going to be for the Dark Knight. Even though Gotham City became a fun Easter egg and DC reference in Superman, the DCU’s Batman will be played by a different actor.

Since the Batman of the DCU is also going to be further along in his journey as a crime fighter, in comparison to Pattinson’s iteration, the story has already made it impossible for Reeves’ franchise to connect to James Gunn’s project. Pattinson’s Batman will remain in his own universe, while The Brave and The Bold movie remains in development for the DCU.

Had it not been for The Brave and The Bold‘s confirmation, Williams’ comments about Pattinson’s Batman fitting into the DCU would have fully worked. Even though Pattinson’s Batman won’t be part of the DCU timeline, there is always the possibility of having a crossover down the line through the multiverse concept.

But even if that doesn’t happen, fans will still get to see Corenswet’s Superman together with a version of Batman eventually, whoever ends up being cast as him. Hopefully, after the big Superman success, more details on the DCU’s Batman will emerge sooner rather than later.

Superman is now on Digital, with its 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release set for Sept. 23, 2025.
