“Very Scary”: Stephen King Shares Glowing Review Of New Smash Hit Horror Movie With 94% RT Score

Stephen King has praised a new horror movie. King is a prolific author who is best known for his horror novels. He has penned iconic тιтles in every decade since the 1970s, including 1974’s Carrie (his debut novel), 1981’s Cujo, 1992’s Gerald’s Game, 2009’s Under the Dome, 2011’s 11/22/63, and 2020’s The Life of Chuck.

The author’s works have been adapted to the screen numerous times. While some of the best-known Stephen King movies aren’t horror тιтles, including 1986’s Stand by Me and The Shawshank Redemption, many are minted horror classics. This includes 1976’s Carrie, 1980’s The Shining, 1990’s Misery, 2007’s The Mist, and 2017’s It.

However, King also stays abreast of the latest in horror cinema, even for тιтles that he was not directly involved in. One of the newest movies that he has seen and enjoyed is a project that has become a hit both critically and commercially in 2025.

Stephen King Shared His Review Of Weapons

2025’s Weapons has received glowing praise from Stephen King. The new horror movie from director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) follows the chaos that ensues in a small town after 17 kids from the same elementary school class disappear simultaneously on the same night after leaving their beds and running out into the darkness.

The movie, which has a near-perfect, Certified Fresh, score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that includes Julia Garner (Inventing Anna), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives), Austin Abrams (Do Revenge), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), and Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams).

On his official X account, Stephen King shared his thoughts after seeing Weapons. Although his review was brief, it was powerfully positive. In addition to calling the story “confidently told” and saying it was “very scary,” King ended his review by announcing that “I loved it.” See his original post below:

What This Means For Weapons

Stephen King heaping praise on Weapons may not affect its prospects very much, because it has already been connecting with audiences, grossing more than $100 million in theaters worldwide before the end of its first full week in theaters and earning a Verified H๏τ Popcornmeter score of 86% from more than 5,000 verified user ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

However, his review cements the movie’s burgeoning status as a modern classic. Multiple Weapons reviews have compared the movie’s small town setting and ensemble cast packed with rich characters to the works of Stephen King, so the fact that the author himself admitted that the movie was scary and effective is a major feather in its cap.
