Tom Holland is poised for a record-setting 2026 thanks to his blockbuster movies, and he’s not alone. Holland has been acting in films since the early 2010s, with notable roles in The Impossible and In the Heart of the Sea. However, he quickly became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars after being cast as Spider-Man in the MCU.
Spider-Man is one of the biggest franchises out there, but he’s also been part of other Marvel box office blockbusters like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Outside Marvel, he also had a leading role as Nathan Drake in 2022’s Uncharted, a modest hit though not on the same level as Spider-Man.
In 2026, he’s returning to the MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, it’s not the only major blockbuster he’s starring in next year, as he also has a starring role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. If everything goes right, Holland and one of his co-stars could make box office history.
Tom Holland And Jon Bernthal Could Star In 2 $1 Billion Movies In The Same Month
Holland and Jon Bernthal are both co-starring in two major films in July 2026. Holland is reprising his role as Peter Parker in Brand New Day, and is playing Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, in The Odyssey. Meanwhile, Bernthal is returning to Marvel as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, in the next Spider-Man film, and portrays an unconfirmed character in Nolan’s Ancient Greek epic.
The Odyssey is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, while Brand New Day is set to release two weeks later on July 31. There’s a good chance that both of these films will join the $1 billion club. If that happens, Holland and Bernthal would become the first two actors to star in two $1 billion movies that were released the same month.
This would be rare, historically speaking. There have only been three instances in history where a single month produced multiple billion dollar box office earners. But, Tom Holland was part of the last instance in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far From Home and The Lion King‘s July releases.
Months With Multiple $1 Billion Movie Releases |
Movies |
---|---|
April 2015 |
Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Minions |
June 2018 |
Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom, Incredibles 2 |
July 2019 |
Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Lion King |
This possibility isn’t just wishful thinking. The last two Spider-Man films both crossed $1 billion, with No Way Home nearing the $2 billion mark. He’s an internationally popular character, and it’s hard to imagine Brand New Day failing to reach the billion-dollar threshold. The Odyssey‘s box office potential is more questionable, but there are plenty of reasons for optimism.
Firstly, Nolan’s last film, Oppenheimer, made nearly $1 billion worldwide with $975.8 million. It’s a wildly impressive number, considering it’s a 3-hour R-rated biopic, and it competed with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Odyssey is a more recognizable name, and many are willing to go to theaters to see anything made by Nolan.
Additionally, early screenings of The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX have already sold out a year before the film’s release. If anticipation for this film is this high, it’s hard to believe it can’t pᴀss Oppenheimer and reach the $1 billion milestone. Holland and Bernthal are poised to make box office history, thanks to Nolan’s filmmaking prowess and Spider-Man’s international appeal.
