Gal Gadot Addresses Snow White’s “Disappointing” Box Office Failure: “You Win Some, You Lose Some”

Gal Gadot opens up about the 2025 Snow White remake’s disappointing box office. The latest reimagination of Disney’s classic fairy tale movie stars Gadot as the Evil Queen and Rachel Zegler as the тιтular princess. After opening to a modest $42 million during its first weekend, the movie failed to match expectations, concluding its theatrical run with $205 million worldwide.

Considering the production budget for the movie is reportedly close to $270 million, Snow White flopped at the box office. Even before its release, the movie was often in the middle of controversies. With a 38% critic approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes, the live-action reimagination was criticized for its lack of originality and problematic changes that departed far from the source material, with many considering it a misguided attempt to modernize the story.

In an interview with The A Talk, the Wonder Woman star addressed the movie’s poor performance. She shared that there was “pressure on celebrities to speak against Israel,” and while she had high hopes for the Disney movie, she was “disappointed” that it was “so affected by it.” Read her comment below:

In various industries, including Hollywood, there’s pressure on celebrities to speak against Israel. You know, [the international situation] happened, and despite… I can always explain and try to give context about what’s happening here, and I always do that. But, in the end, people make their own decisions. I was disappointed the movie was so affected by it and it didn’t succeed at the box office. But that’s how it goes. You win some, you lose some.”

What This Means For Gal Gadot And The 2025 Snow White Film

Gal Gadot, who was born in Israel, has served in the Israeli Defense Forces. She received backlash for supporting her country of origin in the Gaza War. Since the conflict between Israel and Palestine began, she has been scrutinized by pro-Palestinian activists for her stance.

At the Jerusalem Film Festival, the actor voiced hope for the Gaza War to end, which was also negatively received by right-wing media in Israel since the government has vowed to continue until Gaza is completely destroyed. While it makes sense that Gadot felt immense pressure from different political parties, the heat she received was only one of the controversies Snow White was ᴀssociated with.

Zegler’s negative comment about the original Snow White and political statement about supporting Palestine further added fuel to the situation. At the same time, the 2025 remake also faced its own challenges in trying to captivate fans with modern updates. In addition, the movie’s modern updates, including making the seven dwarfs magical creatures, left many with a negative impression of the movie.

There are a wide range of reasons why Snow White didn’t perform well at the box office. It’s worth pointing out that, aside from controversies, the 2025 remake suffered from review bombing and received mostly negative reviews from critics, which could further sway potential viewers from watching it in theaters. However, its arrival on the Disney+ streaming platform led to a surge of interest in the controversial remake.

In fact, Snow White‘s audience approval rate suggests that the movie did resonate with the majority of viewers. With a 70% RT audience score, it seems that Gal Gadot’s performance did work for many who did see the remake. This suggests that perhaps the movie’s box office did suffer from the media backlash to some degree, though they weren’t the sole reasons for its failure.
