Brie Larson, Jack Quaid & 2 Major Stars Join Amazon’s New Comedy

Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and two major stars join Amazon’s new comedy, Close Personal Friends. The actress burst onto the scene in 2015 with Room, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, though she is best known for playing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in Captain Marvel and reprising the role for Avengers: Endgame and The Marvels.

On the other hand, Quaid is best known as Hughie Campbell in Amazon Prime’s satirical superhero series The Boys. He has also made the jump to movies, playing roles in Scream (2022) and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and has since taken on starring roles in the sci-fi thriller Companion and action comedy Novocaine (both 2025). Now, the two stars are teaming up for a new comedy.

Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, Lily Collins, and Henry Golding will star in their new comedy, Close Personal Friends. It will be directed by Jason Orley and written by Isaac Aptaker, who previously collaborated with Amazon on the 2022 romantic comedy I Want You Back.

Though plot details are being kept under wraps, Close Personal Friends reportedly revolves around a couple who meet and befriend a celebrity couple during a trip to Santa Barbara, and boundaries are crossed, tensions rise, and plenty of awkward comedy ensues. Shooting is set to start in London this September.

What This Means For Close Personal Friends

Other than Brie Larson and Jack Quaid, Close Personal Friends will also feature Lily Collins and Henry Golding, the former best known for starring in Netflix’s romantic comedy series Emily in Paris. Collins has plenty of experience in comedy, having appeared in the BBC sitcom Growing Pains and garnering critical acclaim for her performance in the romantic comedy Rules Don’t Apply.

On the other hand, Henry Golding has starred in the popular romantic comedies Crazy Rich Asians and Last Christmas. He’s also showcased some of his comedic chops in A Simple Favor, and Guy Ritchie’s action-comedies The Gentlemen and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Collins and Golding, paired with Larson and Quaid, should make for a strong cast in Close Personal Friends.

Though Larson is best known for her dramatic performances, she also has plenty of experience in comedy. She appeared in the sitcom Raising Dad before playing supporting roles in the comedies Hoot, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and 21 Jump Street. Even after her breakthrough in the indie drama Short Term 12, she took on a supporting role in the comedy Trainwreck.

Quaid is quickly developing his comedic chops, having had a supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s heist comedy Logan Lucky and recently leading the action comedy Novocaine. Overall, Close Personal Friends features four stars who are poised to deliver some strong comedic performances.
