Lionsgate’s From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is getting a vinyl release as visually stylized as the John Wick franchise itself, and ScreenRant has a first look. Len Wiseman’s riff on the world of John Wick introduced audiences to Ana de Armas’ Eve, a ballerina-turned-ᴀssᴀssin, and aimed to craft action scenes worthy of the Keanu Reeves blockbusters.
The movie also boasts a soundtrack by longtime John Wick franchise composers Joel J. Richard and Tyler Bates, who have written music for sequences like John Wick: Chapter 4’s climactic shootout. Together, they put together a score that tracks Eve’s emotional journey through her childhood up through her biggest challenge yet–and which kicks plenty of ʙuтт along the way.
ScreenRant is happy to offer a first look at the Ballerina “Violet Smoke” edition vinyl, coming October 17 courtesy of Lakeshore Records. Boasting a contrasting, moody color palette, pink vinyl, and art featuring Eve, the record is a visually and sonically arresting collection addition. You can pre-order the record here.
More About The Ballerina Soundtrack
The Ballerina: From the World of John Wick “Violet Smoke” edition vinyl comes with one LP. ScreenRant’s Ballerina: From the World of John Wick review praises the movie’s ability to match the stylized look and feel of the John Wick films, and the vinyl’s 19 tracks are an easy way to remember its most gripping moments.
The track “Kiki Mora”, for example, evokes the humanity of Eve and the tragedy of her personal story, while “Great Hallstat Bake Off” drops listeners right back into Ana de Armas’ fire fight scene. Like many great movie soundtracks, the Ballerina album also has some solidly punny track names, like “In The Wick Of Time”.
The score for Ballerina is the latest in what has become a very rich musical legacy for the larger franchise. Music has always been key to the series, with each film boasting at least one song written for it (for Ballerina, it was “Fight Like A Girl” by Evanescence, which is not a part of this album.)
Tyler Bates spoke with ScreenRant about his musical journey with John Wick, even revealing a few big “almosts” along the way. But for Ballerina, Bates and Richard pulled no punches, blending electronic music elements with guitar, bᴀss, drums, and vocals for a hybrid sound that you can imagine a trained ᴀssᴀssin taking down hordes of enemies to.
