It’s Past Time That Netflix’s Most-Watched Movie Ever Is Actually Good

Netflix is close to getting a new most-watched movie, and this time, it will actually be good. Red Notice is famously the streaming service’s most-watched original movie of all time as of the writing of this article, and it earned this spot within 11 days of its November 5, 2021, release date.

Despite its streaming success, the Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot movie has been the ʙuтт of many jokes. Red Notice is constantly mocked for the minimal amount of cultural impact that it had, with its most-watched status becoming ironic. The movie currently has 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, further cementing its failure to leave a lasting impression.

Red Notice earned a whopping 230.9 million views during its first 91 days of release, and while many movies have gotten close, none have pᴀssed it. Carry-On sits in third place with 172.1 million views, and Don’t Look Up isn’t far behind with 171.4 million views (via Netflix). However, one 2025 release has soared into second place, and it could finally dethrone the king of Netflix.

KPop Demon Hunters Would Be A Much More Deserving Netflix #1 Than Red Notice

2025’s KPop Demon Hunters has been a mᴀssive hit since its June 20 release, becoming Netflix’s second most-watched movie of all time with 184.6 million views. While it is still over 40 million views away from beating Red Notice, it could very well do so based on the way it’s been trending.

The animated film becoming the most-watched Netflix movie of all time would be notable for several reasons. Firstly, because it’s good. Fans and critics love KPop Demon Hunters, giving it a 97% critic score and a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Rather than being a generic action movie, KPop Demon Hunters is a unique movie with cool animation, interesting world-building, and fantastic music.

On top of that, the film has actually had a cultural impact. KPop Demon Hunters‘ soundtrack has been a huge hit on music streaming platforms, with “Golden” even hitting number one on the Billboard 200. A theatrical sing-along version is also planned, proving that the movie has fans who will turn up for events.

Netflix is already planning on expanding the franchise, referring to KPop Demon Hunters as their Frozen. Sequels, spinoffs, live-action versions, TV and musical adaptations, and more are being discussed, and all of these future projects will only help to boost the cultural impact of the original film.

Based on all of this, Red Notice may only have a few weeks left in the top spot. It is possible that the movie’s viewership falls off before it reaches the 240 million mark, but if any movie is going to top Netflix’s charts, it will be KPop Demon Hunters.
