Stephen King Picks This Actor To Play The Horror Author In A Biopic Movie

Stephen King, often hailed as the “King of Horror,” has built a literary empire that transcends the boundaries of any single genre. While his mastery of horror is unquestionable, his body of work extends to suspense, crime, science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. Beyond his celebrated novels, King has written roughly 200 short stories, many preserved in acclaimed collections.

His 1974 debut novel, Carrie, catapulted King into prominence and cemented his reputation in horror. Yet, works like Different Seasons (1982) revealed his ability to move beyond the macabre into broader human narratives. Numerous screen adaptations – ranging from The Shining (1980), Misery (1990), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and It (2017) – have brought his storytelling to a wider audience and solidified his place in popular culture.

Beyond his prolific literary output, King has emerged as a compelling public figure – candid, politically outspoken, and often engaging with readers through interviews, essays, and social media. Given his celebrity status, it’s entirely conceivable that a biopic could be made about his life one day.

Stephen King Reveals Who He Wants To Play Himself In A Biopic

Stephen King reveals multiple actors whom he would want to play himself in a biopic movie. Though King’s stories have been adapted to the screen countless times over the years, there hasn’t been much discussion about a biopic being made about him. However, King’s life, marked by early struggles and meteoric success, does offer a narrative as rich as his fiction.

Born in Portland, Maine, in 1947, King endured a modest and often difficult childhood marked by his father’s absence and his family’s financial strain. He was pᴀssionate about storytelling from a young age, though he struggled with rejection before Carrie launched his career in 1974, and he has seen continued success ever since.

During a recent interview with The Guardian, Stephen King revealed who he would want to see play himself in a biopic. Though he humorously suggested a handsome actor, like Brad Pitt, who he says is too good-looking, King acknowledged his age and suggested older choices like Christopher Lloyd or Kyle MacLachlan. Read his full comments below:

I would love to have a good-looking leading man, but I don’t think Brad Pitt would do it. He is a lot better-looking than me. I’m a little bit on the elderly side now, so I’d say maybe Christopher Lloyd or – who’s the guy in Twin Peaks, the main tall guy? Kyle MacLachlan.

Our Take On Stephen King’s Choices

Stephen King’s choices, Christopher Lloyd and Kyle MacLachlan, aren’t bad, especially for depicting the later stages of his life, though Bill Hader might be a better choice, depending on what era of King’s life the biopic would be about. Not only does Hader have the physical resemblance, but he also has the acting chops necessary to render a convincing portrayal of Stephen King.
