James Gunn Provides Major Script & Filming Update On The Superman Saga

The new Superman saga gets a mᴀssive update from James Gunn following the 2025 DC Universe movie’s success. Despite Superman‘s ending, the journey has only just begun for David Corenswet’s Man of Steel in the DCU franchise, with the recent installment becoming the highest-grossing superhero film of the year.

With 2026 bringing Milly Alcock’s Supergirl movie to theaters, the Kryptonian legacy is already a central piece in the DCU timeline. After the Superman post-credits scene, the audience eagerly wants to learn what is next for Krypton’s last son in this universe, and it appears they will not have to wait for too long.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter (via X), Gunn was asked about the status of his next Superman installment, which led to the DC Studios co-CEO revealing a very promising update for the project, which he calls “the next story in the Superman Saga.” Not only is the script treatment done, but Gunn is hopeful about production starting soon, as he stated the following:

I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the Superman Saga. The treatment is done, which means a very, very worked out treatment. I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.

These comments come very shortly after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed that Gunn was officially working on another sequel about the Super-Family. But as of right now, no release date for Gunn’s Superman-related project has been set yet by DC Studios.

Given Superman‘s box office numbers, it is not too much of a surprise that the Superman Saga is becoming a bigger priority for DC Studios and the large DCU franchise. With Superman being the most iconic superhero in all of Hollywood, this is the time to capitalize on the Man of Tomorrow.

Considering the strategy that they seem to be going for in terms of releases, 2027 is likely when the DCU is going to slot the next Superman Saga movie. Based on Gunn’s comments, it would make sense if filming were to take place sometime in 2026, while additional casting could begin in the fall.

After hearing Gunn go as far as referring to this new era as the Superman Saga, this goes to show that all of DC Studios’ hard work for 2025 has paid off. From the many positive Superman movie reviews to the box office results for the DCU film, the budding franchise has had an incredible summer.

The most likely scenario for this unтιтled project is that it will be a Superman and Supergirl team-up movie, especially after Alcock’s cameo in her cousin’s 2025 installment. Hopefully, more details on the Superman Saga will emerge sooner rather than later.
