Eminem Documentary Gets Streaming Release Date – And It’s Sooner Than You Think

Eminem’s stans know when they can catch the rapper’s documentary Stans at home, as the movie gets a streaming release date.

A superfan is called a stan thanks to Eminem’s mᴀssive 2000 hit about an admirer whose love has crossed the line into obsession. 25 years after “Stan” coined the term by which over-zealous fans will forever be known, the documentary Stans takes a look Eminem’s own most committed acolytes, and their complicated relationship with their reluctant idol.

Stans received a four-day theatrical run on AMC screens, and now it’s headed for the home market, setting a streaming release date of August 26, 2025 on Paramount+, Paramount confirms. The film’s director Steven Leckart said in a statement:

’Stan’ is one of the most unconventional songs ever written, where the story is mostly told from a fan’s perspective, so this film was an incredible opportunity to find a unique approach. We kept coming back to one lyric from the song: ‘I’m just like you.’ Fans who echo that same sentiment carry much of the film. But like the song, Marshall’s perspective was also essential to the movie. I’m grateful for just how candid, sincere, and frequently hilarious he was.

What This Means For Stans

“Stan” ranks as one of the most acclaimed and successful rap songs of all-time. It reached #1 on the charts in 12 countries, while later being named to Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs list, and its iconic video starring Final Destination‘s Devon Sawa as the тιтular Stan was nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards.

The term “stan” has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.

The feature-length Stans tells the story of Eminem’s career, but also shows the evolution of his fanbase over the years, using a combination of dramatic recreations, archival footage and interviews. Critics got their first look at the film at SXSW London earlier this year, and reviews were largely positive (Stans sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes).

The stans featured in Stans will soon be able to watch themselves at home on Paramount+, as will all those Eminem admirers who perhaps are not quite at the stan level. General viewers of music documentaries may also enjoy the well-reviewed film.

Our Take On Stans Hitting Paramount+ On August 25

Eminem - Marshall Mathers LP promo

When Stans hits Paramount+ August 25, it will join an impressive lineup of music docs already available on the streamer. That lineup includes Cameron Crowe’s Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party, Madonna’s Madam X, BITCHIN: The Sound and Fury of Rick James, the Sinead O’Connor doc Nothing Compares, and The Day the Music Died: The Story of Don McLean’s American Pie.

Thanks to that roster of documentaries, plus many more, Paramount+ is a prime destination for music fans fascinated in learning the stories behind their favorite artists. Stans makes a solid addition to that lineup of music docs, giving subscribers a retrospective of Eminem’s career, and a portrait of the fans that have followed him for all these years.

After being in theaters for just four days, Stans now has a chance to reach a much wider audience thanks to its new streaming home on Paramount+.
