Avengers: Doomsday’s Teased $2.9B Boost Would Make It A Guaranteed Hit

A new character has just been teased for Avengers: Doomsday, giving the film’s box office a $2.9 billion boost. The cast list for Avengers: Doomsday is perhaps the most extensive in the entire MCU, yet there are more announcements expected in the future. This would make Avengers: Doomsday‘s story the most ambitious in the franchise.

Not only will the film have to showcase the true villain of the Multiverse Saga, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, but it will have to balance several MCU heroes, too. With the returning directing duo of the Russo Brothers for the upcoming Marvel movie, this is certainly possible. Even with additional characters, Avengers: Doomsday is highly anticipated.

This anticipation has only grown recently, with a new character teased for the movie. This character starred in one of the best MCU movies in recent years, and could ensure Avengers: Doomsday is a box office hit due to their own $2.9 billion franchise.

Ryan Reynolds Has Teased ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s Inclusion In Avengers: Doomsday

The character in question is ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool last appeared in ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, with actor Ryan Reynolds hinting at his future as the character. Reynolds took to Instagram to post an image of the iconic Avengers logo with a distinct twist. The logo has another “A” sprayed over the top in an anarchic style, hinting at ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday.

If ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool can be described as anything, it is anarchic. The character is a symbol of breaking conventions in Marvel Comics, the X-Men movie timeline, and the MCU after ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. This post from Reynolds hints that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s chaotic ways will overtake the Avengers, seemingly implying his role in the currently in-production Avengers: Doomsday.

Perhaps the biggest source of discourse concerning the MCU of late has been the franchise’s box office totals. The MCU has not been as consistently successful as it was during the 2010s, specifically between 2012 and 2019. As a result, the conversation has turned to whether Avengers: Doomsday will reach the heights of its predecessors.

The lowest-grossing Avengers movie was Age of Ultron with just under $1.4 billion. 2012’s The Avengers earned $1.5 billion, while Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame both cracked the $2 billion milestone. The former earned a worldwide total of $2.04 billion, with the latter shattering records with a $2.7 billion haul.

Even in light of the MCU’s recent box office issues, Avengers: Doomsday is at least expected to outgross The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. With the potential addition of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool, Avengers: Doomsday has all but guaranteed this. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool has proven to be an incredibly popular character since his cinematic debut.

The three ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool movies have earned a total of $2.9 billion at the worldwide box office. The first two movies earned $780 million apiece, while ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine earned over $1.3 billion. With these totals in mind, Avengers: Doomsday may have received a boost worth $2.9 billion, should Reynolds’ tease, indeed, be setting up ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool’s role in the film.

Marvel’s Recent Box Office Totals Explain Exactly Why Avengers: Doomsday May Need ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool

As already alluded to, the MCU’s recent box office trends could explain why Avengers: Doomsday needs ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. Of the last seven movies released in the MCU, only two have been truly profitable. One of these was the aforementioned ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine with its $1.3 billion gross, and the other was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with an $845 million gross.

Movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Captain America: Brave New World have failed recently for Marvel Studios. The former two have marked the biggest flops for Marvel Studios in its history, with Ant-Man 3 costing a mᴀssive budget of $380 million and The Marvels becoming the lowest-grossing movie in the MCU with only a $200 million haul.

Even the Marvel movies of 2025 that were considered a return to form for the franchise, such as Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, have been relatively underwhelming at the box office. Thunderbolts* only earned $380 million at the box office against a $180 million budget, while The Fantastic Four: First Steps has earned $435 million on a $200 million budget.

Evidently, this is a worrying trend for Marvel Studios going into important movies like Avengers: Doomsday. The movie needs to be a success both critically and commercially to justify the return of the Russo Brothers and Robert Downey Jr., as well as to set up the story of Avengers: Secret Wars and whatever comes after.

Taking into account this recent string of box office disappointments, Avengers: Doomsday needs ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool. As mentioned, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine is the most profitable Marvel movie in years. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine is only the second MCU movie to cross the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office since 2019.

The film is the sixth-highest-grossing in the entire MCU, only being bested by the four Avengers movies and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. This all proves how much of a boost ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool is to Avengers: Doomsday, especially after ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, with the Merc with a Mouth taking $2.9 billion worth of excitement into the upcoming movie, if he is a part of it.
