David Corenswet’s Superman costume finally gets revealed without the trunks in a new DC Universe featurette. As the Superman movie finally brought the DC legend back to the world of cinema, James Gunn’s film became the latest cinematic take on the Man of Steel.
One aspect that was always highly discussed in the fandom as well as among the Superman creative team was whether the costume would feature Superman’s famous trunks. As Corenswet’s Superman costume ultimately did go with the trunks, viewers can get a better idea of what it would have looked like if they hadn’t gone with them at all.
In a new Superman movie featurette, “Adventures in the Making of Superman,” the process of costume-making gets a spotlight. During one segment, Corenswet’s costume is featured without the trunks, giving fans the best look yet at his suit without them. Check it out below:
The “Adventures in the Making of Superman” featurette will be included on the Superman movie Digital, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray release. Superman is currently sitting at $579.1 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing superhero film of 2025.
Why David Corenswet’s Superman Going With The Trunks Is A Big Deal
While Superman’s costume can work with or without the trunks, the DCU iteration benefited from the costume team’s decision to include them. The trunks are not just a big DC Easter egg and known piece of Superman iconography, but also a return to a look last seen in 2006’s Superman Returns.
Even though Henry Cavill’s Superman costume worked without the trunks, the suit design for the DCU film clearly benefitted from their use. As seen in the pH๏τo above from the Superman featurette, the costume just looks too strange without the trunks, which could have led to social media backlash not unlike the Henry Cavill mustache debacle.
Our Take On David Corenswet’s Superman Going With The Trunks
In the end, Corenswet’s Superman costume looks way better with the trunks, and it’s appreciated that there really was a lot of discussion about whether his suit would feature them at all. However, that doesn’t mean that future Superman costumes couldn’t omit it, as Corenswet’s hero will more than likely upgrade his uniform down the line.
After the Superman post-credits scene, time will tell when Corenswet’s Man of Steel will return. Of course, DC Studios has numerous movies and TV shows in the works. Hopefully, following the mᴀssive success of Superman, Corenswet’s beloved DCU hero will be back on screen sooner rather than later.
