One Night Only has found its leading duo. The upcoming movie is set to be directed by Will Gluck, who recently struck box office gold with the 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You, which grossed a whopping $220.3 million against its reported $25 million budget. The Anyone But You cast was led by Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.
A new duo is stepping into the leads for One Night Only, which was also written by Gluck, revising the original Black List script by Travis Braun. The tweaks he made are unknown, but the original storyline was a comedy tweak on The Purge where premarital Sєx is only legal for one day, leaving single people rushing to find partners.
ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reports that Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner will play the leads in One Night Only, which is in the works with Universal Pictures. They also report that the actors were both high on Gluck’s list of contenders from the beginning.
What This Means For One Night Only
Both Barbaro and Turner are up-and-coming stars with major successes under their belts. In fact, Barbaro was just nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Joan Baez in the cast of A Complete Unknown.

Barbaro has also emerged as an action star thanks to roles in the Netflix series FUBAR (in which she played Arnold Schwarzenegger’s daughter) and the smash hit legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick (in which she played ace pilot Phoenix).
Callum Turner has also starred in his share of prominent тιтles. After playing Newt Scamander’s older brother Thesus in the latter two Fantastic Beasts movies, he took on larger roles, primarily in period dramas. This includes playing real-life rower Joe Rantz in The Boys in the Boat and Major John “Bucky” Egan in Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air.
Our Take On The One Night Only Casting
By casting Turner and Barbaro, Gluck is giving them the same chance that he gave Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. Although both stars already had notable тιтles under their belt (Powell co-starred with Barbaro in Top Gun: Maverick and Sweeney had broken out with a role in HBO’s Euphoria), the rom-com helped them become the A-listers they are now known as.
Will Gluck also helped launch the career of Oscar winner Emma Stone, who was a relative unknown before being cast in his 2010 teen comedy Easy A.
Should One Night Only become a hit at the level of Anyone But You, it could launch the careers of both stars into the stratosphere. However, it remains to be seen if this happens, because it has a much more heightened premise than Anyone But You. Regardless, with two rising stars at the helm, the movie has a lot of promise.
