Eddie Murphy has determined one of his next projects with Playas Ball. Murphy is known for his comedic acting, contributing his talents to everything from Harlem Nights to The Nutty Professor. One of his major franchises is Beverly Hills Cop, which got a new installment last year with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
At 64 years old, Murphy is still a highly prolific actor. Next year, he will reprise one of his most iconic roles by returning to voice Donkey for Shrek 5. He is also confirmed to be voice acting again for an animated version of The Pink Panther, playing Inspector Clouseau.
Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Murphy has now set his next project. He will star in the film Playas Ball, and while the exact plot has yet to be revealed, the source had it described to them as an action comedy focusing on the unᴅᴇᴀᴅ. The movie will be directed by Kyle Newacheck and produced by Imagine Entertainment.
Producing through Imagine Entertainment are Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody, who will work with producers Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster of Eddie Murphy Productions. The script will be penned by Myles Murphy.
What Playas Ball Means For Eddie Murphy
Though there are very few plot details available for Playas Ball, the limited information that is available hints that it may be a great replacement for one of Murphy’s other comedies. This is The Haunted Mansion, a ghoulish 2003 movie starring Murphy as a realtor who realizes the mansion he has arrived at is haunted.
Playas Ball may not be as much of a family film as The Haunted Mansion was, but its supernatural plot nonetheless forges the connection. As such, this likens the new movie to one of Murphy’s earlier 21st-century classics.
As for the team behind this new project, the director has a good track record right now. Newacheck is just coming from the Netflix movie Happy Gilmore 2, which has been a high performer on the platform. It seems Newacheck is moving on to work with another major comedic actor after Adam Sandler.
This is also a chance for Murphy to work with Imagine Entertainment once again. He previously collaborated with the producer on тιтles such as The Nutty Professor, Candy Cane Lane, and Bowfinger.
Our Take On Eddie Murphy’s Playas Ball
Playas Ball is a chance for Eddie Murphy to be in a fresh film on screen, rather than returning to a voice-acting role. While his part as the Donkey is iconic, a live-action film like this will give him the opportunity to exhibit physical comedy as well. And this project sounds like a fun way to do so.
