With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in his rearview, Tom Cruise is at the beginning of a new era in his career, and it’s the perfect time for him to join one of the most popular action franchises of the last decade. The acclaimed actor broke out in Hollywood in the early ’80s after starring in movies like The Outsiders and Risky Business.
As he rose to major stardom, he delivered some of his most acclaimed performances in the late-’80s and ’90s, scoring three Oscar nominations from 1989-1999. He also became one of the most recognizable action stars in the world in the early 2000s, thanks in large part to the Mission: Impossible movies, which were his first foray into producing his own projects.
In the spy franchise, Cruise has literally risked his life to pull off some of the best stunts and action sequences ever put to screen, but The Final Reckoning could be the end of his 30-year run. There are plenty of upcoming Tom Cruise movies to look forward to, including a project with Alejandro González Iñárritu that suggests he might be back in his prestige movie era.
But, if he’s not done with action blockbusters, there’s one acclaimed franchise that could really use his services.
Now Is The Perfect Time For Tom Cruise To Join The John Wick Universe
Alongside Mission: Impossible, John Wick is one of the best-reviewed action franchises of all time. Ever since the first movie released in 2014, the Keanu Reeves-led series has only gotten bigger and bolder, and despite John’s apparent death in Chapter 4, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to end anytime soon. John Wick 5 has been confirmed, and the upcoming Caine spinoff will see the return of Donnie Yen’s fan-favorite character.

Additionally, another John Wick spinoff, Ballerina, released in theaters this June. Even though it only grossed $132 million on a $90 million budget (via Box Office Mojo), it received quite solid reviews. And it’s worth noting that Ballerina starred Ana de Armas, who Cruise is rumored to be dating.
Cruise has been spotted with de Armas a lot recently as the two were preparing to star in the thriller movie Deeper together, and Cruise even praised Ballerina during his Mission: Impossible press run, claiming that it “kicks ᴀss.” This comment, and the fact that Cruise has also recently praised Keanu Reeves, suggests he’s likely a fan of what the John Wick franchise has been doing.
According to Puck, Deeper‘s development has stalled over budget issues, so it would make perfect sense for Cruise to join John Wick and work alongside de Armas. Perhaps Cruise’s star power would be enough to convince Lionsgate to greenlight a Ballerina 2 despite the original’s performance. It would be great to see him play a fellow ᴀssᴀssin, or possibly even the villain of the sequel.
Another enticing possibility is Cruise starring alongside Reeves in John Wick 5. They may be two of the most popular action stars in the world, but Cruise and Reeves have actually never starred in a movie together. It would be incredible to see Tom Cruise join the John Wick franchise to make this dream match-up happen – it might even justify undoing John’s death.
