This 10% RT Secret Masterpiece Starring Jason Bateman is Climbing Netflix Global Charts

However, Couples Retreat was not well-received at the time of its release. The movie got a dismal 10% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, and a still-bad 39% Popcornmeter, making it one of the lowest-rated films of Bateman’s career.

Redeeming itself, Couples Retreat is now trending on streaming. The comedy is No. 7 on the HBO movies charts in the United States today, Aug. 8. The Top 10 is also currently occupied by the Final Destination movies, along with Death of a Unicorn, Alien: Covenant, Sinners, and Opus.

The re-emergence of Couples Retreat on streaming demonstrates the misunderstood nature of this film. The poor Rotten Tomatoes score does not paint a full picture of the movie. While it has its flaws, Couples Retreat boasts a great ensemble cast, who have great comedic dynamics when working together.

The resurgence of Couples Retreat on streaming is also good news for Jason Bateman going into the rest of the year. He will soon star in the TV miniseries Black Rabbit, as well as reprise his voice acting role as Nick Wilde in Zootopia 2. As such, greater name recognition for Bateman will potentially boost the success of these projects.
