New $6.6M Korean Horror Movie With MCU Star Surges On Netflix’s Global Charts

Korean-language films and TV shows have been surging on Netflix in recent years. This has especially been the case since the release of Squid Game season 1 in 2021, which became an international sensation and led to an increased interest in K-dramas overall.

This also came after the vibrant Korean film market was becoming more well-known across the globe, even outside K-drama. Bong Joon-Ho’s 2019 film Parasite historically won the Best Picture award and served as a great example of the interesting and socially conscious work coming out of Korea.

In reaction to these various trends, Netflix has been leaning into its Korean-language content more in recent years. This was especially true this year, when the streamer kicked off Q1 by announcing the release of 29 Korean-language films and TV shows.

After TV success with When Life Gives You Tangerines and Weak Hero Class 2, Korean films have also been doing well on Netflix. Most recently, this has happened with the thriller Wall to Wall, which stars two actors from Squid Game. Now, another Korean film has begun to do well on Netflix’s global charts.

Holy Night: Demon Hunters Is Doing Well On Netflix

Holy Night: Demon Hunters is now trending on Netflix. The fantasy horror thriller is about a group of people who fight against evil spirits. It is directed by Lim Dae-hee.

Holy Night: Demon Hunters‘ cast is led by Ma Dong-seok. Ma has previously appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), portraying Gilgamesh in the 2021 film Eternals. Holy Night: Demon Hunters‘ cast also includes Lee Da-wit, Jung Ji-so, and Cha Woo-jin.

Per Netflix, Holy Night: Demon Hunters has now become a global hit, coming in at no. 4 on the top 10 chart among non-English language films for the week of July 28 to August 3. It was beaten out by A Normal Woman, Brick, and An Honest Life, but ranked higher than тιтles such as Almost Family and Wall to Wall.

The movie was in the top 10 in South Korea, becoming the no. 1 movie. It was not in the top 10 in any other country this week, making its home country the major driver of its success.

What This Means For Holy Night: Demon Hunters

The success of Holy Night: Demon Hunters is a good sign for Netflix as it moves forward with the distribution of other Korean-language projects. Wall to Wall also made an appearance on the top 10 list, even though it fell to the no. 6 slot. These trends will likely encourage Netflix to keep producing Korean-language content.
