A record-breaking Netflix movie has reclaimed the top spot on a major chart. Netflix is one of the biggest subscription streaming services in the modern era. While it also boasts a library of licensed тιтles, it is best known for its original movies and television shows.
Some of the most-watched Netflix movies are the star-studded action-comedy Red Notice (which features Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot), the Taron Egerton-led TSA thriller Carry-On, the Oscar-nominated satire Don’t Look Up, the post-apocalyptic monster thriller Bird Box, and a new тιтle that has found astonishingly consistent success.
KPop Demon Hunters Is Back On Top In The U.S.
The animated fantasy-horror musical KPop Demon Hunters is continuing to prove its dominance on Netflix. The movie, which follows a KPop girl group called Huntr/x that moonlights as demon hunters, debuted on the streaming platform on June 20.
It became a more or less instant sensation, topping Netflix’s global chart for three consecutive weeks and sending the record-breaking original song “Golden” to No. 2 on the Billboard H๏τ 100. Other songs from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack also charted across the world.
With 158.8 million global viewers accumulating a total of 264.6 million viewing hours, KPop Demon Hunters has become the fourth most-watched Netflix movie of all time.
Now, KPop Demon Hunters has risen back up to the top of Netflix‘s daily chart of their most-watched movies in the United States, usurping the week’s previous No. 1 movie, which was the Adam Sandler comedy legacy sequel Happy Gilmore 2.
While it’s still No. 2 on the daily global chart behind Netflix’s new Sofia Carson rom-com My Oxford Year, KPop Demon Hunters hit No. 1 again in the States on August 5 and has maintained that position for four consecutive days.
It toppled both My Oxford Year and Happy Gilmore 2, knocking the former to No. 3 and the latter to No. 2.
What This Means For KPop Demon Hunters
Considering its resurgence, it is entirely possible that KPop Demon Hunters could continue to climb Netflix’s all-time chart. The chart counts views in the first 91 days of a movie’s release, and it is currently only on day 50. It could pᴀss Don’t Look Up with 12.6 million more views, Carry-On with 13.3 million, and Red Notice with 72.1 million.
However, KPop Demon Hunters could slow down soon. The first four episodes of the H๏τly anticipated Wednesday season 2 debuted on August 6, which could divert a huge chunk of its core demographic. Season 1 of the horror-comedy series is Netflix‘s most-watched English-language season ever, which could provide the musical with some major compeтιтion.
