The Pickup Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play

The Pickup is the latest comedy outing from Eddie Murphy, Pete Davidson, and Keke Palmer, and there are several crucial scenes in the movie that are soundtracked by some very recognizable songs. Although The Pickup’s Rotten Tomatoes reception has been underwhelming, there’s still plenty to enjoy about the film.

The Pickup centers around two unlikely heroes in the form of armored truck delivery drivers, who are ambushed by a group of skilled criminals looking to steal their vehicle to pull off an intricate heist. The comedy of The Pickup is somewhat touch-and-go, but the music is typically strong throughout.

When Every Song On The Pickup’s Soundtrack Plays In The Movie

Eddie Murphy casts his gaze downward in a scene from The Pickup

“Fly as Me” by Silk Sonic: The Pickup opens with a high-energy credits sequence backed by Silk Sonic’s 2021 single “Fly as Me”. The musical group features Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, two of the leading voices in modern soul/pop music. This song was released on their formative 2021 album “An Evening with Silk Sonic”.

“Woop Baby” by Letherette: The next song to appear in The Pickup plays when Travis meets Zoe at the bank, and she offers him her phone number. The song is a traditional love ballad with an old-timey classic sound, but was actually released by Letherette in 2018.

Thinking With My D*ck” by Kevin Gates: UK rap artist Kevin Gates’ song plays during an establishing montage the morning of Russ and Travis’ big job, particularly when Travis wakes up from his one-night-stand with Zoe.

“Supernatural Thing” by Ben E. King: Moments after Travis wakes up and realizes he’s running late, Russ arrives at the depot, where Ben E. King’s “Supernatural Thing” can be heard playing in the background. This musical switch-up immediately helps characterize these two individuals, highlighting the difference in their lifestyles.

Lento” by Lkhn, DVTTY, & Godwonder: Another high-energy track, “Lento” plays as Russ and Travis pull out from the depot and a quick montage switches the perspective to Zoe and her crew in their hideout. It’s a very brief scene, but the music helps carry the audience efficiently between these two locations.

“Lovin’ On Me” by Jack Harlow: Jack Harlow’s BRIT Award-nominated single “Lovin’ on Me” is the song that Travis decides to play on the radio during the beginning of his long drive with Russ. It serves as another entertaining reminder of just how different these two characters are.

“Neutron Dance” by The Pointer Sisters: After picking up on Russ’s distaste for modern hip-hop, Travis switches the radio to “Neutron Dance” by the Pointer Sisters. Despite many reviews of The Pickup criticizing the underwhelming use of these comedy actors, it’s small moments like this that really help solidify that entertaining dynamic from the beginning.

“Fly” by Sugar Ray: When Travis and Russ have to pull over and fix their tire following their first encounter with Zoe’s crew, Sugar Ray’s “Fly” can be heard in the car of the couple who drive past. Although it’s only a few seconds of the song, the laid-back tempo really helps contrast the chaos of Russ and Travis’ situation.

“Candy Girl” by New Edition: “Candy Girl” is playing over the stereo in the diner that Russ, Travis, and Zoe visit shortly before their casino heist. Again, this song serves as an effective contrast between the calm demeanors they’re all presenting and the inner panic that Russ and Travis are experiencing.

“Welcome to Jamrock” by Damian Marley: This reggae-inspired track is playing in Chop Shop’s garage when Miguel and Banner pay their old ᴀssociate a visit, marking another example of The Pickup using laid-back songs to draw attention to the dark violence of its characters.

“Sea Legs” by Run The Jewels: “Sea Legs” by Atlanta-based rap duo Run The Jewels also plays in the background of an intense car chase between Banner and Zoe.

“Make It H๏τ” by BJ the Chicago Kid and Eryn Allen Kane: The ending of The Pickup sees Zoe escape to Bali with the money she stole from the casino, and “Make it H๏τ” by BJ the Chicago Kid and Eryn Allen Kane effectively serves as her victory anthem. The song plays during the “6 Months Later” transition and cuts just before her conversation with Travis.

Feelin’ Alright” by Paul Russell: “Feelin’ Alright” is one of two songs that play over The Pickup’s credits. It’s sung by Paul Russell, an American rapper and singer best known for his 2023 hit “Lil’ Boo Thang”.

“Rock With You” by Keke Palmer and DivaGurl: The final track may sound familiar, as it’s sung by The Pickup‘s cast member, Keke Palmer. The single was released just last year and features emerging pop group DivaGurl, who have worked with Palmer previously.

Where To Listen To The Pickup’s Soundtrack

Pete Davidson & Keke Palmer in The Pickup

Unfortunately, The Pickup’s soundtrack is not currently available to stream on Spotify, Apple Music, or any other music streaming services. While it’s possible there will be an official release in the future, audiences can still listen to each of the songs individually on any major streaming platform. Prime Video also has a useful “X-Ray” feature that allows viewers to identify the songs as they appear in the film.
