Spider-Man movie suits are always a talking point, and while many of them have become quite popular, there are a few that have not been given the same treatment, but they are still great for a variety of reasons. The Marvel Cinematic Universe proved just how exciting Spider-Man’s suits are by putting three of them together onscreen for the first time.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a generational event that spotlighted the legacy of all Spider-Man movies by having Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Men share the screen. That opportunity allowed fans to compare the heroes’ Spider-Man suits more closely, and it has even inspired Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as the MCU is taking inspiration from Maguire and Garfield.

As has been revealed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day set pH๏τos and videos, Holland’s new Spider-Man costume takes clear cues from the two past cinematic Spider-Men, with the raised webbing in the MCU suit being a clear improvement. Holland is the Spider-Man actor who has worn the most suits, with a wide variety throughout Spider-Man’s MCU timeline, including crossover movies.

Due to Holland’s many appearances, the number of live-action Spider-Man suits has risen exponentially over the past decade. As such, a few of the heroes’ costumes have not been given as much attention as I believe they should have. Spider-Man has many underrated live-action suits, and after taking a look at his entire live-action legacy, these costumes are the most underrated:

Andrew Garfield’s Vigilante Outfit

First up is Andrew Garfield’s starter suit. While he would get a formal Spider-Man suit over the course of The Amazing Spider-Man, the actor’s first costume did not look much like his Marvel hero. The main connection between the vigilante outfit and classic Spidey is the red mask Peter Parker wears. However, the jacket, beanie, and shades make it distinct.

Due to that difference from Spider-Man’s classic design, this suit is not often talked about. However, I feel like it is the perfect representation of the more vindictive vigilante Garfield’s Peter Parker is at the start of The Amazing Spider-Man. The mix between Spider-Man’s red mask and the dark general outfit combined perfectly with Peter going after Uncle Ben’s killer.

The Night Monkey Suit

As the Spider-Man with the most costumes in live-action, some of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man suits in the MCU do not get as much attention as his splashier ones. That is the case for the Night Monkey suit. While it did receive attention when Spider-Man: Far From Home was released, the suit has mostly been forgotten since then, which is a shame.

Given how Spider-Man’s black suit is a classic, I’m a fan of costumes that tease that. The Night Monkey suit made perfect sense story-wise, too, as Peter needed to ᴀssume a completely different idenтιтy while fighting crime in Europe to not make people connect him to Spider-Man. It is a functional stealth suit and feels like a modern Spider-Man Noir adaptation.

MCU Black And Gold Suit

Continuing on the subject of nods to Spider-Man’s classic black, symbiote suit is one of the most unexpected costumes from Spider-Man: No Way Home. While I found the setup for Peter to don the black and gold suit kind of silly — his red and black costume gets paint thrown at it — I liked how Marvel found a unique way to switch costumes.

The black and gold Spider-Man suit ended up being the inside part of Holland’s red and black Spider-Man costume. As such, we could see all the wires and technological bits from the suit created with Stark Tech. The black and gold looked striking, setting it apart from other live-action Spider-Man costumes both visually and in terms of how it was crafted.

Tobey Maguire’s Wrestler Suit

This one is a classic. Due to how Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies were the hero’s first ones, a lot of the main events of Sam Raimi’s Marvel movie franchise are still relevant to this day. Peter Parker’s start as a wrestler before ultimately letting Uncle Ben’s killer walk and blaming himself for it is a key part of his story.

That said, I feel like Spider-Man’s wrestler suit deserves more love. It is a perfectly stripped-to-basics approach to a believable hero in a real-world setting while using his iconography in a major way. The red and blue color scheme is present, the giant spider with a street-like style fits the wrestler angle, and we can see Maguire’s eyes emoting.

Andrew Garfield’s Firefighter Outfit

This entry is not really a full-on suit, as it is mostly Andrew Garfield’s main costume from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, it does something that I absolutely love about the comics, which is adding other pieces of clothing to a superhero’s costume, something Spider-Man is particularly known for, and we have not seen happen a lot in the movies.

While I love all Spider-Man movie actors, there is something about Garfield’s wise-cracking lines when in the suit that just feels the most accurate to Spider-Man from Marvel Comics. Seeing him don a firefighter’s helmet while splashing Electro with a firehose — helped by actual firefighters — was a treat. The contrast between the helmet and Spidey’s costume creates a fun look.

MCU Iron Spider Suit

The Iron Spider suit is one of Spider-Man’s best alternate costumes from the comics. It belongs to Marvel’s Civil War era, though it comes a little later in the MCU’s timeline. When it was first revealed, the MCU Iron Spider suit was heavily criticized for looking way too different from the original comic book suit, not using the red and gold scheme.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter’s Integrated Suit would be the perfect mix between the MCU and Marvel Comics Iron Spider suits. Despite that fact, I believe the original MCU Iron Spider suit already looked good even with all the negative chatter. I felt the black cut the red nicely, and the armored look was unique for Spider-Man onscreen.

MCU Homemade Suit

Tom Holland’s final Spider-Man suit on the list comes from his first MCU solo movie. Spider-Man: Homecoming used the Stark Suit for most of the film, but my favorite Spider-Man costume was not the more technologically advanced one, but Peter Parker’s homemade suit. Given how much the hero has been connected to technology in the MCU, the basic suit feels refreshing.

We never got to see Peter’s origin story in the MCU, but I believe we got a feel of what that looked like through the Spider-Man homemade suit. The classic red and blue color scheme is present, and it is fun to get a Spider-Man mask with such small eyes, which is unlike anything we have seen elsewhere in the franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man Main Suit

Finally, I firmly believe that Spider-Man’s most underrated movie suit is easily Andrew Garfield’s main costume from The Amazing Spider-Man. Sure, there are some stark differences from the hero’s classic suits. Namely, the yellow lenses did not land well with many fans. The suit also features way more blue than normal, which stretches even to his fingers.

The texture, sneaker-like soles, fresh red and blue scheme, and overall edgier tone make it one of my favorite Spider-Man movie suits. The Amazing Spider-Man suit looks sleek, and it perfectly suits the tone of the franchise, as well as Garfield’s Spider-Man being more acrobatic and spider-like than Maguire’s. While not universally beloved, it is a striking Spider-Man suit.
