Robots, a 2005 computer-animated movie taking place in a world filled with anthropomorphic robots, is doing well on streaming right now. The movie tells the story of a young inventor who goes to work at his dream company, only to discover things are not what they seem.
In addition to Williams and Coolidge, the voice cast of Robots includes Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Paula Abdul, Mel Brooks, and Jim Broadbent. However, Robots was a strange movie that got a mixed response when it was released in theaters. The film has a 64% Tomatometer and a 54% Popcornmeter. It also made $262.5 million on an estimated $75 million budget.

AI-based movie plots, such as M3GAN and Companion, are increasingly popular now, which explains some of the renewed robot interest. However, the bots in Robots are highly different from any imaginings of AI now. As such, the reasoning for Robots‘ surge at this exact moment seems a bit bizarre.
Perhaps Coolidge’s influence has enough sway to get people interested in Robots again. The movie is one of the more eccentric animated films of its decade, and it is worth checking out for that reason alone. Robots is a unique window into a different era of animation that can be appreciated by animated movie fans today.
