Warner Bros. Details Release Plans For 12-14 Movies Per Year

A new Warner Bros. report reveals plans to release 12 to 14 movies annually. Warner Bros. is one of the still-surviving major studios from Hollywood’s old studio system. Of the original five Majors, they are one of only two to survive, alongside Paramount. Some of their recent тιтles include The Alto Knights, Sinners, and Superman.

Warner Bros. Discovery serves as the parent company for both Warner Bros. and HBO. As such, many of their films end up being distributed on HBO Max. HBO has also gone through some rebranding this year with its streaming transition back to HBO Max (rather than just Max).

During their recent earnings call, Warner Bros. is now planning extensive theatrical release plans. This comes in response to the group’s recent financial reporting, which sees them up $9.8 billion in revenue from this time last year. The company has made over $3 billion at the box office this year alone.

CEO David Zaslav wrote in a letter to the company that they would now be trying to release 12 to 14 films theatrically each year. This would include movies across all four of its labels, including 1-2 Warner Bros. Pictures films, 1-2 DC Studios Films, 3-4 New Line Cinema releases, and 1-2 Warner Bros. Animation movies.

Warner Bros.’ 2025 success does not stop at the box office. Rather, the company also added 3.4 million streaming subscribers, which contributed to an 8 percent revenue increase, bringing its revenue to $2.8 billion (with an adjusted EBITDA of $293 million). This boom is partially attributable to HBO Max’s ad service and its launch in more international markets.

This news comes after Warner Bros. announced its mᴀssive schism earlier this year. As per a June report, the studio would be split into two publicly traded companies. One side would become Streaming & Studios, run by Zaslav. The other will become Global Networks and will be run by Gunnar Wiedenfels.

The most recent Warner Bros. update reveals one major direction the company is going in as it looks forward to the soon-to-be split future. While Global Networks will face its own challenges, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Streaming & Studios will move forward into a theatrically focused future.

While they have had some disappointments along the way, this news comes at a time when Warner Bros. has been big at the box office. They blew audiences away with Barbie in 2023, and have had hit after hit this year with A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Superman.

If all goes well, Warner Bros. could help encourage people to come back to movie theaters. They have done well so far this year by really pitching the event movie, and 2026 and beyond could help the company solidify this trend.
