DC Confirms The Joker’s Design For Batman’s Next Movie

The first official look at the Joker in the next Batman movie has been revealed, highlighting just how different the new take on the Dark Knight and his mythos is. James Gunn’s DC Universe recently started with Creature Commandos at the end of 2024. Then, Gunn’s Superman, the first film in the DCU’s movie slate, was released to huge success.

Despite Gunn’s 10-year plan for DC hinging on the interconnectedness of the DCU, there will still be room for stories that take place outside the DCU canon. These will be released under the Elseworlds banner, which includes the projects set in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe. However, Batman’s next movie will not come from the DCU or The Batman franchise.

DC Has Revealed What Aztec Batman’s Joker Looks Like

A new Batman movie is coming in 2025, two years before Robert Pattinson dons the cowl once again for The Batman – Part II. Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is an animated movie that will follow a very different take on Batman and classic characters like the Joker. As its тιтle suggests, the story takes place not in Gotham, but in Tenochтιтlán, Mexico.

The Joker will go by a different name in DC’s next Batman movie, Yoka. As has come to be expected from the character, the animated version of the Joker has white makeup and red lipstick, completed with his usual crazy laugh. However, when he closes his eyes, it looks like he has a void in their place, making him more sinister.

Given how Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is a fresh take on the DC hero, the Joker will have a completely different backstory from the one fans are used to. In the 2025 Batman movie, Yoka is a former priest who descends into madness after performing many sacrifices. The Joker will be deranged, as has come to be expected.

How Aztec Batman’s Joker Compares To Other Movie Jokers

Based on his makeup and red lipstick, the Joker’s big features in DC’s new Batman movie are similar to those of other classic movie versions of the villain. However, it is through the fusion of DC characters and Aztec Batman‘s cultural roots that the Joker’s design becomes more unique. His use of jewelry and even conquistador armor set him apart.

Additionally, the black makeup on the Joker’s eyes in the Batman movie is fitting. The villain is known for being unsettling, and by having his eyes look like two black voids when closed, the Joker looks even more maniacal than usual in Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires. As such, I can’t wait to see his role in DC’s next Batman movie.
